لما بتعالج طفلة عمرها ٥ سنوات
٤ جلسات خالية من الكذب
كل جلسة بتوجعها شوي
ومرات كتير
إبر وعصب وحشوات وتنظيف
بتبكي كتير
وبينعصر قلبك
وبتزعل عليها
وبتنق عليك
وبتخانقك وبتصرخ بوشك وبتطالعلك روحك
بتسكر تمها مشان ما تشتغل
وبتعضك بس تمنعها من تسكير تمها باصبعتك
وبتضل عم تشتغل
وبعدها
بعد ما يروح الألم اللي بالبيت ويروح الألم اللي بالعيادة
بعد ما تنشف دموعها
بتركض لعندك وبتعانقك وبتعطيك هالورقة
بتعرف إنك عم تشتغل صح
وبتعرف قديش بتحب مهنتك
When you treat a five-year-old girl.
four sessions with zero lies.
You cause some pain each session,
And sometimes a lot.
needles, nerves, fillings, and cleanings.
She cries so much,
Your heart breaks.
You feel sorry for her.
She nags so much.
fights you, screams at you, and gives you a hard time.
She closes her mouth so you can’t work.
And she bites your finger when you try to stop her from closing it.
And you keep working.
And then,
after the pain at home is gone and the pain at the clinic is gone,
after her tears have dried,
she runs to you, hugs you, and gives you this piece of paper.
That’s when you know you’re doing the right thing.
And you realize just how much you love your profession.
