Some of these get dismissed as “just teenage things.” They’re not always.
PCOS often shows up in adolescence, but the signs are quieter than people expect, and they’re often blamed on puberty, stress, or “just being a teenager.” That’s how so many girls grow up without answers.
Here’s what tends to get missed
→ Dark patches on the neck or underarms
→ Small skin tags around the neck
→ Sudden mood dips and irritability
→ Cravings that keep coming back
→ Unexplained fatigue, even after good sleep
→ Persistent small ovarian cysts
→ Subtle cycle changes
If you’re noticing more than one of these in your daughter, it might be worth a conversation with a paediatric endocrinologist. PCOS is far more manageable when caught early, and feeling heard is often the biggest part of the journey.
For the women reading this who are recognising your teenage self in the list, so many of you were missed. It’s not too late to get answers.
