Last Night was a great night! The Daniel Initiative was proud to be one of the sponsors of the Annual Law Day Dinner. and co-chaired this event in excellence and class…as always. Congratulations to the scholarship recipients and award recipients. All of the honorees were Black women.

The Daniel Initiative’s table was the fun table last night. It is always a blessing when God allows us to use TDI’s funds in impactful and meaningful ways. Even better when we get to do so by hosting some of our partners in the and work. .spencer

As a Member of the Board of Trustees for the Black Student Fund (BSF), I get the privilege to be part of an organization that provides access and opportunity for Black students across the DMV area. Yesterday, I flew in from a business trip in Botswana and rolled right into the musical . Although I was tired, it is always important to push for racial and education equity every chance I get. Youth and families from across the DMV joined us in watching . The cast was stellar, the music on point. I’ll post soon about my trip to Botswana, but last night was about young DMV talent being inspired towards excellence as they viewed Black creative excellence on the stage.

As a Board Member of and the lead of Strategic Partnerships, I had the privilege of cementing our collaborative partnership with . Ambassador Eunice Reddick and I enjoyed our time in Indiana launching this exciting relationship. Dean Shruti Rana and Professor Terrance Stroud, thank you for colaboring with me to foster this relationship. We started the weekend with a powerful conversation between Ambassador Eunice Reddick and Ambassador Feisal Al-Istrabadi. I had the privilege of convening and moderating a panel discussion on the necessity of DE&I in international affairs, and also connect with the next generation of foreign affairs practictioners. The pictures below are a snapshot of the weekend’s events. I am looking forward to this fruitful partnership that will promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in international affairs.

Today is my birthday, and as I reflect on this past year, the word adequately sums up my thoughts. Over this past year I learned to fully embrace who God created me to be, with no apologies. I’ve learned to be resilient and to love better. I also learned the importance of wisely setting up boundaries and honoring the value of my own time. I entered into my wealthy place and am committing to seeing this reality manifest in its fullness. I have been surrounded by family, friends, mentees who express their love and support in their own ways. This is me, and I like who I am becoming.

This conversation is happening tonight on clubhouse!

Two years ago, I founded The Policy Plug on clubhouse as an extension of The Daniel Initiative’s work to strive for equity in public policy and governance. One year ago today, we hosted a live session on clubhouse to help folks process the Insurrection, and provide support and updates. It should not be lost on us that the “Big Lie” that fueled the J6 terrorists was the latest attempt to deligitimize Black votes, Brown votes, Indigenous votes, and the votes of multimarginalized individuals. The refusal to bring everything to bear to achieve has been eroding our democracy for quite a long time. We can’t heal until we can be honest about where we are and what we’ve allowed.

Join me, , Madison Jacobs, and some other experts as we have a conversation on what accountability must look like one year after 1/6. See you at 6pm EST.
