English Walks

English Walks Englischkonversation beim Gehen mit Native Speaker "brush up your English" Schulenglisch ist ausreichend und ein Einstieg ist jederzeit möglich.

We discussed brainstorming itself using a handout. We found the following remarkable: On 25 July, Der Standard reported that Google is building one of Europe’s largest data centres in Kronsdorf, Upper Austria.
It will consume a lot of electricity, space, and cooling water from the Enns River, which will then flow back into the river. 'Google is still looking for a buyer for the waste heat'.
But people in the town have already started speculating about what could be done with the excess heat: Greenhouses and a fish farm have been suggested, and in one 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, even a thermal spa."

Wir sollten gelegentlich berichten was sich so bei English Walks tut !
Die Themen der und was sonst noch ...
Wir erwähnten dieses Thema hier in FB zuletzt:
° the food bowls used in the Middle Ages

das war aber nicht das letzte ... es ging mit jeweils einem kompakten handout weiter:
° "𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦": Many living beings belonging to a group that, when viewed from the outside, behave like a single individual.
° "𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬": are capable of assuming a variety of roles as needed to respond to changing conditions.
° “𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐨𝐭": *memory decay* caused by excessive social media consumption ... TikTok is the most addictive of them all.
° "𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐯𝐬. 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝": Slow Food is a global grassroots movement that emphasizes sustainability {Nachhaltigkeit}, local tradition, and the social experience of eating.
° "𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐨": Why Do Placebos Work? Effective without an active ingredient. Colorful pills can heal, even if they don't contain any medicine.
° "𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞-𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐥𝐞": By tailoring their reproductive strategy to a specific environmental trigger—fire — these beetles turn disaster into opportunity and create new life from the ashes.
° "𝐡𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬": Japan is strikingly superstitious. A survey in 2024 showed that a third of its citizens believe in spirits. Social media teems{wimmeln} with tales of ghosts lingering in incident properties.

This huge oak bush is now 45 years old. It stands at the entrance to the house in Rohr.
Trude originally dug up a young sapling about the size of her index finger at the foot of the Eichkogel in Mödling.
She then moved it twice more, digging it up each time and replanting it. Years later, when the “tree” was about waist-high, Tom split it in two with a falling tree. So our little friend decided to become a bush! And—to our great delight: today we discovered the first(!) and only acorn.

𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 — it really impressed me.
At the “English Walks” there are a few “regulars” who come every week, eager and happy to join in, have good , and feel a sense of friendship.
Of course, the English Walk takes a break during the summer, but it’s back now.
Here’s what two ladies had to say: “The English Walk is part of our routine, and we enjoy it so much that in recent weeks, whenever there wasn’t a meeting, we went for walks on our own. And of course, we spoke only English!”

e have a row of aronia bushes that have now grown well over our heads. Last year, we covered the bushes with nets and harvested 6 liters of berries. This year, there were no nets. In the spring, seeing the berries that were still green, we thought: This is going to be great again!
The blackbirds didn’t care what we thought and devoured all the berries before they had even ripened to black-purple. They ate everything—nothing left! Just the bare stems. The berry in the background of the photo has since disappeared as well.

Lilian: ... My first reaction when the AI spit out really good analysis results and comparison tables{Vergleichtstabellen} was one of shock. I’ve always considered that beeing one of my strengths: clearly distilling complexity down to the essentials{auf das Wesentliche reduzieren}... ...
That prompted us to ask AI (Gemini): Can we trust what you say? The answer was quite extensive and impressive... Here is the closing sentence:
Tip: Think of AI as a highly talented but occasionally dishonest intern{flunkernden Praktikanten}. You’re the editor-in-chief. The intern provides the draft{Entwurf}, but you’re responsible for the accuracy{Wahrheitsgehalt} and quality of the final product.
