This is meant to be a Beef treat but there are numerous other animal proteins in it. So how much beef is really in it? We will never know because the labelling laws in Australia don't require pet food manufacturers to list everything.
Vegetable protein is a highly processed product with very little nutritional value. It is generally made by taking soy flour, a by-product of soy oil, and removing the fat using solvents.
Cereal protein is a collective term for many types of grains & starches that are used as cheap fillers & binders. There is little to no nutritional value.
Sucrose is SUGAR! This is completely unnecessary but makes treats highly addictive to dogs.
Salt - also completely unnecessary especially when preservatives are on the list further down. Some treat & food companies use salt as a natural preservative but it is still an unhealthy addition to your dogs diet.
Colours - very unnecessary. They are for the benefit of the pet owner. If we think the treat looks attractive we are more likely to buy it for our pet. Colourings are totally unnecessary unless they serve a nutritional purpose & come from fruits, vegetables or superfoods. The kind of colours used in highly processed treats are very unhealthy & can contribute to many health & skin conditions. They can even be carcinogenic!
Preservatives. When listed in this way alarm bells immediately go off! There could be numerous dangerous, toxic & carcinogenic preservatives such as BHT, BHA & ETHOXIQUIN used in this treat. Without individual listings you will never know.
Antioxidants. Many of us would think antioxidants are a good thing. In the human food world we hear many positive things about antioxidants being good for us. That is when they are naturally occurring in healthy fruits and vegetables. When they are listed on a pet product it means the treat is so highly processed that antioxidants need to be added to prevent the fats & oils in the product turning rancid. This also indicates the proteins in the product are so inferior that they will go rancid without the addition of preservatives & antioxidants.
