Communication is more than spoken words 💬

At Stone Speech Pathology, we support and encourage multimodal communication, recognising that individuals communicate in many different ways.

🗣 Spoken language
✋ Key Word Sign
📱 AAC and communication devices
👀 Facial expressions and eye gaze
👉 Gestures, pointing, and body language
🖼 Visual supports

Every form of communication is valid, meaningful, and important. Our goal is to help each individual communicate in the way that works best for them while supporting confidence, connection, and participation in everyday life.

Not sure if it’s time to seek support for your child’s communication? You’re not alone, many families wonder when to take that next step.

It might be worth speaking with your GP or a speech pathologist if you notice:
• Your child isn’t meeting typical speech or language milestones
• They’re hard to understand compared to other children their age
• They get frustrated when trying to communicate
• They’re not responding to sounds, their name, or instructions
• You have a gut feeling something isn’t quite right

Early support can make a big difference and reaching out doesn’t mean something is “wrong,” it just means you’re being proactive.

If you’re facing wait times, please know there are still supports available. We’ve created an active waiting list with helpful resources, guidance, and practical strategies for families while they wait, so you don’t have to feel stuck or hopeless.

Your GP can guide you on next steps and referrals, and we’re always here to chat if you have questions 🤍

NDIS Updates – What You Need to Know (Right Now 💜)

We know there has been a lot of recent media coverage and conversation about potential changes to the NDIS.

It’s completely understandable if this has felt overwhelming or uncertain for families, participants, and our wider community.

To help make sense of what’s being shared, we’re re-posting this easy-read infographic which provides a clear and accessible overview of what is currently being discussed.

💬 Our key message to you:
Right now, nothing is changing immediately.
There are many ideas being explored at a government level, but there are still limited details and no confirmed timelines for most changes. This means there is time to stay informed, ask questions, and prepare gradually — without needing to make any urgent decisions.

At Stone Speech Pathology, we want to reassure you that:

We are actively keeping up to date with all NDIS developments

We are carefully monitoring what these changes may mean for our clients and families
We will continue to communicate clearly and honestly as more information becomes available

Most importantly, we are here to support you every step of the way

🤝 You are not navigating this alone.
Our team is committed to ensuring you feel informed, supported, and confident in your child’s services — no matter what changes may come in the future.
If you have questions, concerns, or simply want to talk things through, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always here for our community.
