We were honoured to present at the official launch of REACH-AMR on 7 May 2026, led by LLa Trobe Institute for Molecular Science

Our chairperson, Deirdre Pinto, shared the lived experience of chronic UTI through a patient testimony and findings from our national survey of more than 400 Australians living with chronic UTI symptoms.

Thank you to the REACH-AMR team for recognising the importance of patient voices in infection and antimicrobial resistance research.

The 2026 National Pain Survey is now open.

We encourage you to complete this important survey - every response shapes the evidence presented to policymakers and helps make the case for better-funded, more accessible pain management across Australia.

There are some open text fields towards the end of the survey - we would encourage you to mention โ€˜chronic UTIโ€™ in your responses.

For many families, this wonโ€™t come as a surprise.

Emerging reports highlight that autistic children with chronic UTIs may be going undiagnosed or left without effective treatment โ€” putting them at risk of ongoing pain and long-term complications.

This reflects a broader issue we see every day: UTI is still too often treated as simple, when for many it is anything but.

Children, neurodivergent families, and those with complex presentations are especially vulnerable to being overlooked.

We need to move beyond one-size-fits-all care โ€” and start taking chronic UTI seriously.

Doctors fear thousands of children could be left without diagnosis and treatment for chronic UTI, potentially leading to long-term kidney damage

While not groundbreaking advice - an encouraging step. Itโ€™s good to see a more informed, nuanced conversation about UTIs making its way into mainstream media. Awareness matters.

Many women can go straight to the pharmacy and get antibiotics without having to wait to see a doctor. But some symptoms can signal a more serious infection.
