The new NDIS reforms are bringing some huge changes over the next few years, with the government saying the focus is on making the scheme more “sustainable” and reducing fraud.

Some of the biggest proposed changes include:
• Moving from diagnosis-based access to functional capacity assessments
• Reduced spending on social and community participation supports
• Stricter provider rules and registration requirements
• More oversight around funding and plan management
• New “foundational supports” outside the NDIS for some people

The government says essential daily living and critical supports will remain protected, but many participants, families and providers are understandably worried about what these changes could mean in real life — especially for people with psychosocial disability, autism and those with lower but still significant support needs.

A lot of details are still unclear, and many of the reforms won’t fully roll out until 2027–2028, but it’s definitely a conversation worth paying attention to.

What are your thoughts on the proposed changes? Do you think they’ll improve the system, or leave people without the support they need?

A Sydney man has been charged following an alleged multi-million dollar NDIS fraud, reminding us why integrity in the NDIS matters.

What is NDIS fraud?
Fraud can include:
• Claiming for supports that were never delivered
• Overcharging or double-claiming
• Misusing participant funds
• False invoices or records

💬 Why this matters:
Every dollar lost to fraud is a dollar taken away from people who genuinely need support.

❗ What to do if you suspect NDIS fraud:
You can report concerns directly to the NDIS Quality & Safeguards Commission or the NDIA. Reports can be made confidentially.

📣 NDIS Update | A New Way of Planning

From mid-2026, the NDIS is introducing a new planning framework designed to make the planning process fairer, more consistent and easier to navigate for participants.

What’s changing?
✔ A person-centred and strengths-based planning approach
✔ Plans that focus on individual support needs rather than only functional impairment
✔ Fairer and more consistent budgets
✔ Fewer expensive reports — and plans that are simpler and more flexible to use

These changes are the result of NDIS Review feedback from thousands of participants, families and providers. They’re being phased in from mid-2026, so many people may not experience changes immediately.

📌 The NDIA and the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing are also consulting the community in early 2026 to fine-tune the new framework and planning rules.

Stay tuned for more updates as these reforms roll out — and if you’re unsure what it might mean for your next plan, reach out to your support coordinator. 💙

💡 NDIS Funding – Did You Know?

A little-known fact about Core Supports 👇

Core funding is flexible across categories, meaning funding can often be used across Assistance with Daily Living, Community Access, and Consumables — as long as the support is reasonable, necessary, and linked to your goals.

However, how supports are claimed matters.
Claiming under the wrong support item can cause funding to run out sooner than expected or trigger issues during plan reviews.

This is why understanding your funding — and how it’s being used — is just as important as having it in the first place.

If you’re unsure whether your supports are being claimed correctly, a Support Coordinator can help 💙
