What if we truly understood that everyone is carrying something unseen—heartbreak, financial stress, parenting challenges, addiction, loss.
Maybe we’d choose kindness a little more often.
The world can already feel heavy… let’s not make it heavier.

When you’ve lived through more complicated or heavier experiences than the people around you, there can be a gap in understanding that isn’t just about empathy — it’s about lived experience.

People who haven’t been through certain things sometimes try to interpret your story rather than simply sit with it. And when they interpret it, they often reshape it into something that makes sense to them, not to you.

That’s where the hurt tends to happen.
Instead of saying:

“This must be really hard for you.”

Some people unconsciously move into:

“This must mean you did X,” or “You should just do Y,” or they create a simplified explanation so they don’t have to sit with the complexity of what you’re actually going through.

And then something really unfair happens — your experience gets turned into a narrative that isn’t yours anymore.

People might tell others their version.

They might distance themselves.

They might act like they understand when they actually don’t.

Meanwhile, you’re the one living the reality, not the story being told about it.
There’s a particular kind of loneliness in that.

Not just being hurt — but being misunderstood while you’re hurting.
Something else that often comes with complex life experiences is that you learn early on that:

Some people want the edited version of your life.

Some people want the lesson or inspiration version.

Very few people can sit with the raw version without trying to fix it, judge it, or reshape it.

The friendships that survive those moments tend to be the ones where people don’t try to control the narrative.

They just say:

“I may not fully understand, but I’m here.”

And it’s incredibly sad when friendships fall apart because someone chose a story about you instead of choosing you.

Your ex saying they’re going to change…

Well technically they might be right.
It’s called neuroplasticity — the brain can change throughout your life.

But....... it usually takes self-awareness, effort, and the right support

A Letter to My Younger Self

When I look at this little girl, it feels like another lifetime ago.
Like I’m looking at someone I once knew, but can never go back to.

If I could sit beside her for a moment, this is what I would say.

Life is going to be harder than you can imagine.
There will be moments that feel unfair, confusing, and lonely.

People are complicated.
Some will hurt you.
Some will leave.

The world is smaller than you believe it is right now, and some of your dreams will change along the way.

And the nightmare you carry quietly — the fear of losing a parent too young — one day it will come true.

But here is the part I wish someone had told you.

You will survive.

You will grow stronger in ways you never expected.
The pain will shape you, but it will not define you.

One day you will spend your life helping others find their way through darkness too.

And if I could leave you with one piece of advice, it would be this:

Put yourself first sometimes.

Protect your heart.
Trust your instincts.
And remember that you deserve kindness too.

You are stronger than you know.

If you could write a letter to your younger self… what would you say?

When systems expect the same outcomes from unequal starting points, people aren’t failing — they’re being set up to fail.
Many young people are exposed to adult pain, adult decisions, and adult coping mechanisms long before they are ready. That doesn’t make them broken. It means they adapted to survive.
My work exists because everyone deserves to be seen and heard. Before judgment. Before punishment. Before labels. I take the time to understand — because behaviour always makes sense when you understand the story behind it.
We are all responsible for our own emotions. That responsibility does not give us permission to punish others for what we don’t understand.
If you think you’re the one to judge, blame, or shame someone else — check yourself. You may be part of someone’s story that destroys their world.
There is a difference between being good and being kind.
Being good is an action.
Being kind is character.
And when I look back, I can say I was kind — even when it cost me. Even when kindness was mistaken for weakness. Even when it would’ve been easier to harden instead of understand

🌿 Restore Therapy – Counselling Availability (Northern Adelaide & Barossa)

Hi everyone,
I’m a counsellor based in the Northern Adelaide region and currently have capacity to work with teenagers experiencing drug and alcohol concerns, whether that support is in-home or 1:1 in the community.

I work regularly alongside several Support Coordinators and can assist participants who may be struggling to engage, are in complex home environments, or require a gentle, relationship-based approach to build trust and stability.

What I can offer:
• Youth counselling (AOD, mental health, emotional regulation)
• In-home or community-based sessions
• Collaborative support with Support Coordinators & service providers
• Trauma-informed, strengths-focused, neuro-affirming practice
• NDIS self & plan-managed participants
• Crisis-aware, flexible engagement for complex needs
• Culturally safe and accessible support

Service Areas:
• Northern Adelaide region (Elizabeth, Salisbury, Playford, Gawler, etc.)
• Expanding into the Barossa

If you have young people needing additional support or struggling to engage with therapy, I’m more than happy to discuss how we can work together.

Feel free to send a message or email: [email protected]

When life suddenly changes — hospital stays, crisis admissions, incarceration, or escaping unsafe situations — the people who care the most often face the hardest decisions.
And too often, the first ones left behind… are the pets. 🐾💔

In my work supporting families, single parents, and people doing their absolute best with what they have, I’ve seen this heartbreak up close.
Loving owners forced into impossible choices.
Kids mourning the loss of their pets in the middle of already traumatic moments.
Parents carrying guilt on top of everything else.

This is why organisations like Safe Pets Safe Families mean so much.
They step in when life gets tough — giving pets a safe place to stay so families can get through crisis without losing the ones they love. ❤️🐶🐱

If you or someone you support is going through a tough time, please know there are options.
Keeping families together matters.
And no one should have to choose between their safety and their pet.

Let’s spread awareness.
Let’s support each other.
And let’s make sure no pet gets left behind when life gets hard. 🐾💛

“I didn’t learn counselling from a textbook — I learned it from surviving.
From a small country town where we were ‘different’, to becoming a carer at 14 after a life-changing accident, I’ve lived through the gaps in our support systems.

Restore Therapy was born from my lived experience — to be the advocate I wish I had, to make sure no one is left behind, and to remind you: you are never alone in your journey.

💬 If my story resonates, let’s talk. Together, we can restore hope.”
