Travelling With Coeliac Disease: Supporting Your Gut Before & After the Trip
Travelling with coeliac disease is always a unique challenge. No matter how careful you are, cross-contamination can eventually sneak in. This trip, even my “gluten-free” plane meal arrived with “Not suitable for coeliacs” printed on the side, despite being booked as gluten free.
Over the years, I’ve learned not to stress too much about the things I can’t control. Instead, I focus on supporting my gut before, during and after a trip.
When travelling, I:
• Do my best to eat gluten free
• bring safe snacks
• use digestive enzymes designed to help with accidental exposure (not a cure, but they can reduce the impact of low-level contamination)
When I get home, it’s gut repair time.
