As Sarcoma Awareness Month draws to a close, we want to share some exciting research news.
🎗Research Update
Dr Emmy Fleuren and her team at CCI recently published in Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, this important Australian study brings new hope for children and families affected by sarcoma.
Emmy led this study in collaboration with UNSW, Monash University and Queensland Children’s Hospital.
The study found that a type of targeted treatment, known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors, may help more children with sarcoma than previously realised.
The study looked at samples from 107 children with sarcoma who were part of the ZERO Childhood Cancer Program, making it one of the largest and most wide-ranging studies of high-risk sarcoma in young people to date.
The research showed that while the changes driving sarcoma are often difficult to find, they can sometimes point to treatment options. In one high-risk form of sarcoma, the treatment showed very promising results in research models, and in one child, the tumour became smaller over several months on therapy.
Encouragingly, international data suggests that the same features seen in this type of sarcoma may be present in other children as well, raising hope that more young patients could benefit from this treatment in future.

This is an exciting step forward in finding better treatment options for children with sarcoma, and we are deeply grateful for your support, which is helping make research like this possible.
Through Anya’s Wish, our goal is to build on this progress and help bring better treatment options to more young people facing osteosarcoma.
Every step forward matters. Every discovery brings hope. Every child deserves better treatments.
This work continues because of Anya's courage and the incredible support of our community through the 19 for 19 Challenge.
Together, we're turning hope into reality.
Register for this year’s walk!
