The sauna is where the Circuit balances.

Eighty-five degrees. Twenty minutes. The half of the protocol most people skip when they should be staying.

Long enough for the heart rate to climb, the head to find the rhythm, the person on the bench beside you to settle into the same heat. The shared push that doesn’t need a conversation.

The science is straightforward but the cultural truth is older — Finland has been doing this for two thousand years. Not for the heat. For what the heat does. The body running its own cardiovascular session at rest. The nervous system learning to settle when everything around it says to move. Heat shock proteins building. Cortisol coming down for the rest of the day.

Twenty minutes here, ninety seconds in the cold, repeat. That’s the Circuit. The cold alone makes you tougher. The sauna alone makes you settled. Together, the body adapts to handle both — the meeting room, the gym, the long Tuesday. The hardness you build in here is portable.

Then walk to the cold. Then the steam.

Some hours are loud. Some hours are like this.

The Recovery Club isn’t always at full volume. Some afternoons it runs quieter — the kind of session that doesn’t ask anything of you, doesn’t need to be a thing, doesn’t need a story afterwards.

Both versions count.

The cold plunge is where the Circuit pays off.

Two pools. Eight to ten degrees for the deeper plunge, ten to twelve for the build-up. Most first-timers start at ten to twelve. By month three, they’re going straight to the deeper one.

One to two minutes — longer doesn’t make you tougher, the cold does its work fast. The mistake most people make is staying in to prove something. The shock is the dose. After ninety seconds you’re not gaining more, you’re just enduring.

What’s actually happening: vasoconstriction within the first ten seconds, blood pulling to the core to protect organs. Noradrenaline climbs 200 to 500 percent and stays elevated for hours. Dopamine climbs 250 percent and holds for the rest of the morning.

The mood lift, the mental clarity, the way the rest of the day feels louder in a good way — that’s not in your head, it’s measured.

The breath is the protocol. Long inhale, longer exhale. The exhale is what activates the parasympathetic nervous system — the calming branch. Hold the breath and the body panics. Lead with the exhale and the body learns it can stay.

That’s the bigger reason to keep coming back. The cold teaches the nervous system to find calm under pressure. Practice that twice a week and the meeting you were dreading on Wednesday morning feels different. The hardness you build in the plunge is portable.

Long enough for the friend on the bench to nod when you step out — the unspoken thing that doesn’t need a word.

Then walk back to the hot.

Chapter III of The Winter Circuit.

Forty degrees. Ignoring the clock on the wall. The friend you brought with you finishing the story they started in the cafe.

This is the hot pool — and the part of The Circuit most people get wrong on their first visit.

It’s not where you push through something. It’s where you stop pushing entirely.

The protocol works because of the moments between the work. Heat, conversation, cold, conversation. The talking is part of the science — slower heart rate, longer exhale, the body downshifting because of who’s next to you as much as what’s around you.

Forty degrees. Thirty-six to thirty-eight. And the friend in the next seat.

See you in there.

Boots on. Legs up. The conversation already going.

The Recovery Club, mid-protocol. Forty-five minutes in compression — recovery moves faster when you’re not doing it alone.

This is the room where the bathhouse conversation finishes. Plunge done, coffee in hand, legs being flushed by Normatec, the friend you arrived with finishing the story they started in the sauna.

See you in there.

Caramelised on top. Soft cream. Coffee at the base.

The Crème Brûlée Iced Coffee — new on the winter menu. Toasted sugar, layered over the coffee that runs through the cafe all day.

Built for the walk back from the Bathhouse. The plunge does the work. The Crème Brûlée is what’s waiting.

Where the Circuit starts.

Thirty-six to forty degrees. Four magnesium pools. The heat that opens everything the cold is about to close.

Stay ten to fifteen minutes — until the shoulders drop and the breath finds its rhythm. The bloodflow widens. The nervous system softens. The body lets go of the small accumulations the week has been adding up.

Magnesium isn’t decoration — it’s part of the protocol. Absorbed through the skin, it does the work that magnesium tablets only half-do: muscle release, sleep that lands properly, the kind of softening that doesn’t need a name to recognise.

Most people skip this part and wonder why the plunge is harder than it needs to be. The cold isn’t supposed to feel like a fight. If it does, you started in the wrong place.

Hot first. Then walk to the cold.

Three words. One protocol.

The shortest version of the longest conversation we have with new members.

Read in order. Run in order. Three sessions a week.

Most people walk in not knowing where to start — which pool, how long, in what order, how often.

HOT. COLD. BREATHE. is the shortened version: heat first to open the body, cold next to close it back down, breath as the protocol that holds the two together.

Repeat across the session. Repeat across the week.

The Circuit, explained chapter by chapter all month.

You walk in. You don’t know the order. That’s fine — most people don’t.

The Circuit is the answer to “where do I start?”. The traditional sauna opens you up. Bloodflow widens, sweat starts, the nervous system softens.

The plunge at 10 deg closes everything back down. One - two minutes. Then back to the heat.

Three or four rounds, depending on the kind of week you’ve had.

That’s the protocol. Six magnesium pools, two saunas (traditional and steam), one sequence — and it gets sharper in winter, because the contrast is real on the way in. You walk through cool morning air to a 40°C pool. The body wakes up before the protocol even starts.

Over the next eight weeks, we’ll walk you through it. What each pool does. How long to stay. When to push. When to ease off. By post eight, you’ll walk in knowing exactly where to go.

Tonight is post one.

Come for The Class. Stay for The Plunge.

The pilates studio and the bathhouse share a wall at BREATHE — which means the thirty seconds between your last carriage spring and your first plunge are the only thing standing between the work and the way it puts itself back together.

No drive. No second booking. No having to choose.

Just one place, one flow, and the kind of hour that does both jobs at once.

See you in there.
