A Support Coordinator in the NDIS helps a participant understand and use their NDIS plan and connect with the right services.

What a Support Coordinator can do

* Explain the participant’s NDIS plan and funding.
* Help find and connect with suitable support workers, therapists and providers.
* Coordinate different services so they work together.
* Help with service agreements and bookings.
* Assist with preparing for plan reviews and NDIS meetings.
* Help identify gaps in supports and work toward the participant’s goals.
* Support participants to build independence and eventually manage supports themselves.
* Help resolve issues with providers or services

Travel training helps an NDIS participant develop the skills and confidence to travel more independently, such as using public transport, walking routes, or travelling to work, appointments and community activities.

It can include:

* 🚌 Learning to use buses, trains and ferries
* 🗺️ Planning routes and reading timetables
* 💳 Using Opal cards and ticketing systems
* 🚦 Road and pedestrian safety
* 📱 Using Google Maps and transport apps
* 🧭 Finding destinations and managing changes to routes
* 🆘 What to do if lost, delayed or in an emergency
* 🧑‍💼 Practising travelling to work, education or appointments
* Gradually reducing support as independence increases

NDIS funding: Travel training may potentially be funded where it is related to the participant’s goals and reasonable and necessary supports. The appropriate support item depends on the participant’s plan and whether the service is being delivered as capacity-building skill development or another support category

👶 Thriving Kids & NDIS

* Thriving Kids is starting from October 2026, with services growing over time.
* It is aimed at children 8 and under with developmental delay and/or autism who have low to moderate support needs.
* A diagnosis will not be required to access Thriving Kids.
* It will provide things such as developmental support, family programs, information, advice and targeted supports including allied health.
* Importantly: there are NO changes to NDIS access for children until 1 January 2028.
* Children with permanent and significant disability will continue to be supported through the NDIS
