🚗 One step at a time, Kyle! 🚗
One of Kyle’s goals is to work towards getting his driver’s licence. While there are a number of steps, considerations and supports involved in working towards that goal, we’re certainly not putting it aside just because the end goal can feel a little overwhelming.
Instead, we’re looking at the skills and knowledge that sit underneath it — and finding ways for Kyle to work on those things right now.
Recently, Kyle has been getting hands-on with some of the practical responsibilities that come with owning and driving a vehicle. He’s been learning how to wash a car, check tyre pressure, fill the windscreen washer fluid, understand where to put oil and fuel, and generally become more familiar with the care and maintenance of a vehicle.
These might seem like everyday chores to many of us, but for Kyle, they represent important steps towards independence, confidence and his bigger goal.
We’re also continuing to work on the knowledge and skills involved in driving safely — from recognising road signs and speed limits to developing safe behaviours on the road. 🚦🚗
And the pride Kyle has shown while learning these skills has been absolutely wonderful to see. 🥹
It’s a lovely reminder that sometimes we need to adjust our perspective. When a goal feels big, complicated or a little out of reach, that doesn’t mean we abandon it. We break it down. We look at what is achievable. We find the next step — and then the next one.
For us, changing a tyre or checking the tyre pressure might seem like the straw that broke the camels back on a bad day but for Kyle, it’s independence, confidence and a sense of accomplishment — another small step towards something he is working so hard to achieve.
We’re not rushing the journey. We’re simply helping Kyle keep moving forward, one achievable step at a time.
P.s I think Kyle might be calling Jess about a fleet managers role before we know it 😅 📞
