From gymnastics to swimming, tennis, running, cycling, skiing and hiking, Marzia has been involved in sporting activities all her life. When her passion for tourism marketing ended, she turned her focus to nutrition and its role in our bodies, minds, health and sports performance. After completing a Bachelor of Health in Nutrition and Dietetics, Marzia is now and Accredited Practising Dietitian and a Sports Dietitian, helping people find their path to health, wellbeing or that competitive edge in sports performance.

Nutrition plays a key role in mental health. Young people today face increased pressure to perform in life and in sports and suffer from anxiety and depression more than ever before. Marzia is skilled in helping people of all ages with eating disorders find their way to nutrition that supports physical and mental health. She is particularly passionate about helping young athletes support their performance through balanced nutrition whilst nurturing their relationship with food and body.

Marzia has a passion for things cycling, whether it is on the road or on the trails. Nutrition plays a key role in health and performance. Marzia is proud to be sponsoring the Women Racing Project and supporting them in striving for that podium finish through optimised fuelling strategies on and off the bike.

Fuelling race day like a pro is no walk into the park. If you have a sensitive gut like me, foods you tolerate one time may not work another time.

Here are a few tips to help you find your fuel strategy:

☑️ Carbohydrates focused - ideally white options

☑️ Low in fibre - easier to digest, keep the veggies, nuts and seeds for your recovery meal or snack

☑️ Low in fat - avoid bacon, sausages, fried foods and cream

☑️ Low in protein - protein does not fuel exercise, it is better consumed after

When you find a good combo, stick with it, especially on race day. Variety is great across the week, race day can be the same every time without causing any deficiencies.

My favourite at the moment is:

🥪 Cheese sandwich on white bread 1.5hrs pre race

💦 Tailwind in my bottle during the race

🍬 Fruit salad lollies during the race - typically I will have some lollies after each stage before the next climb

Fuel too much and your gut can struggle to digest and absorb it all, leaving you feeling:

🥺 Nauseous and weak

🥺 With stomach cramps

🥺 Rushing to the toilet

Fuel too little and you can hit the wall, that feels like:

🥺 Heavy legs

🥺 Nausea, racing heart

🥺 Dizziness and shaking

Good nutrition, consistent training and plenty of sleep are what made weeks of riding, hiking and exploring physically possible.

But when I look back on the adventure, it's not the kilometres, elevation or training sessions I remember most.

It's the people I shared it with. The conversations on the trail, the laughs, the encouragement on tough days or moments and the memories made along the way.

The training, nutrition and recovery gave me the ability to be there and fully experience it all. The people are what made it unforgettable.

A good reminder that performance isn't always about going faster or further. Sometimes it is about having the energy and capacity to make the most of the moments that matter.
