📣 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻
Public consultation is now open for the Draft Riverland Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2026–2030, developed in partnership with Berri Barmera Council, the District Council of Loxton Waikerie and Renmark Paringa Council.

The plan outlines practical actions to improve accessibility and inclusion across our region over the next four years, from more accessible events and spaces to inclusive engagement, volunteering and employment opportunities.

Shaped by earlier feedback from community members, including people with lived experience of disability and local service providers, the draft is now ready for broader input.

Consultation closes Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

Urgent investment is needed to implement the National Dementia Action Plan. Australians living with dementia have been patient, but we can no longer afford to wait.

With dementia now the leading cause of death for Australians, Dementia Australia is calling on the government to commit funding in the upcoming budget to implement the National Dementia Action Plan.

Your voice is powerful, so please help us by asking your local Federal Senator or MP to support Dementia Australia’s pre-budget submission requests for:

🧠 A national brain health campaign
🧭 A dementia care navigators network
🎓 Building the dementia capability of the workforce

Australians living with dementia can’t afford to wait. We need to invest now to make sure everyone impacted by dementia receives the services they deserve, whilst reducing risk for future generations.

WHAT DOES A SUPPORT WORKER DO?

So, what exactly is the role of a disability support worker?
The role can vary depending on the client but essentially helps a person with disability live an independent and rewarding life. The aim is to focus on person-centred care, which means tailoring support around the client’s needs and goals. Each client is an individual with specific requirements. Where possible, the support worker will find a way to do tasks with the person and not just for them.
In practical terms this means assisting with:

• Personal care
• Household tasks such as cleaning, meal preparation and gardening
• Medication and medical appointments
• Transport
• Participation in social activities
• Employment
• Health and fitness
• Emotional support

I enjoy the variety of the work and love seeing people getting the most out life. Some of the highlights so far include:

• Assisting a client to re-connect with a sibling after not seeing each other for over 40 years.
• Supporting a client to run their own business.
• Helping a client move into their own rental home.
• Landscaping a client’s yard to beautify the space and make it more pet friendly.
• Supporting a client in Adelaide to attend hospital for an operation.
• Assisting a client to maintain fitness and social opportunities through regular exercise.

To date most of my work experience has been with people affected by mental health conditions. However, I’m always open to new clients and new experiences. If you or you know someone looking for a caring, reliable and trustworthy support worker then please reach out.

My experience is in working with men who have interests in outdoors, sport and leisure. I offer clients support with independent living including domestic help, attending appointments, and assistance with community access and engagement.
