Some people are genuinely happy with what they have.

Some people are happiest when they're chasing the next goal, building something bigger, earning more, travelling more, creating more, achieving more.

And guess what?

Both are okay.

The problem isn't wanting more.

The problem isn't being content.

The problem is when we start looking down on people because their version of happiness doesn't look like ours.

You don't need to convince the person who wants a quiet life that they're not ambitious enough.

And you don't need to convince the person who wants to build an empire that they're doing too much.

Maybe they genuinely LOVE their simple life.

Maybe the other person genuinely LOVES the hustle.

Maybe one person wants the big house, the business, the holidays and the goals…

And someone else just wants a peaceful home, people they love and enough time to enjoy their coffee without anyone asking them for anything. 😂

Neither life is better.

We're all allowed to want different things.

So build the life that makes YOU happy.

Want more? Go for it.

Happy with what you've got? Enjoy it.

Want to change your mind six months from now? Change it.

You don't owe anyone an explanation for what makes your life feel good.

You do you, boo. 🤷🏽‍♀️❤️

And honestly… imagine how much happier we'd all be if we stopped measuring our lives against someone else's.

POV: You leave your phone unattended for approximately 4 seconds… 😂

And suddenly your 5-year-old has:
📱 taken over your camera
🎨 filmed her latest masterpiece
🎤 provided a full commentary
😂 and apparently decided she’s also the director, producer AND narrator.

No one asked for this footage.

No one knew this footage existed.

But somehow… this is now one of my favourite videos on my phone. 🥹🤍
Five-year-olds really said:

“I made a picture. You WILL be seeing it. You WILL be hearing the backstory. And yes, I WILL be filming it myself.” 😂

Honestly, childhood is so chaotic and beautiful at the same time.

One day I'm going to miss these random little videos.

So for now…

keep commandeering my phone, Almera. 🤍

Anyone else have a child who treats their phone like it's a personal film studio? 😂👇🏼

I didn't dye my hair purple because I suddenly became a purple-hair girl. 😂💜

I did it because purple is the colour of epilepsy awareness.

And honestly… I didn't even know that before I lost Jacob.

That's one of the cruel things about grief.

You learn so much about something you never wanted to know anything about.

Suddenly words, colours, songs, places and little things that once meant absolutely nothing to you can carry an entire person inside them.
So yes… this is my version of self-care.

Not a spa day.
Not a face mask.
Not pretending I'm okay.

Just me, standing in my bathroom, putting purple through my hair and doing something that makes me feel a tiny bit more like myself.

Because self-care during grief doesn't always mean taking the pain away.

Sometimes it's finding a way to carry the pain and still do something that makes you smile.

And if purple makes me think of Jacob…

Then I'll wear the hell out of purple. 💜
For my boy.
For epilepsy awareness.
For the families who understand this kind of loss.
And for every person still learning how to live with a hole in their heart.

This is what self-care looks like for me right now.

What does self-care look like for you when you're having a hard time?

Tell me below. I want to know. 🤍

Nobody tells you about the really ordinary things that become difficult when you're grieving.

Getting out of bed.
Having a shower.
Eating something.
Answering a message.
Washing your hair.
Brushing your teeth.

Things you used to do without even thinking about them can suddenly feel like they require every ounce of energy you have.

Since losing Jacob, I've realised that self-care doesn't always look like candles, skincare, a workout, a day at the spa or taking yourself somewhere nice.
Sometimes self-care is simply getting yourself to the bathroom and brushing your teeth.

And today, I did that.

So I'm counting it. 🤍

I'm learning not to judge myself by the version of me who existed before grief.

Because grief changes your capacity.

Some days I can work.
Some days I can laugh.
Some days I can show up for my children.
And some days, brushing my teeth is genuinely the most I have in me.

And that's okay.
If you're grieving too, please don't underestimate the tiny things.

Drink the water.
Take the shower.
Brush your teeth.
Eat something.
Open the curtains.
Step outside for five minutes.

You don't have to conquer the day.

Sometimes you just have to get through it.

And if all you managed today was something small…

I'm proud of you.❤️

I’m actually a very peaceful person. 🧘🏽‍♀️✨

But please don’t make me dig into the emotional archives of my childhood and activate my inner 1980s mother. 😂

I can communicate calmly.
I can choose peace.
I can breathe through it.

OR…

I can stand in the doorway with my hands on my hips and ask why nobody in this house knows how to do ANYTHING properly. 🤦🏽‍♀️🍷
The choice is yours, really.

Choose wisely. 😅

Thankful that Allah chose me to be your mum.

Thankful that you grew into such a kind, brave, outspoken, caring, funny young man.

Thankful that Allah took you before this dirty world got its hands on you.

Thankful that Allah gave you to me so I could see the light.

Thankful for all the cuddles ( hug time every hour on the hour).

Thankful that you had such a sense of humour that just with your presence the sh*ttest day became the best day.

Thankful for all of you, every bit of you, every memory, every photo, every adventure.

Thankful that you are with Allah , waiting for me in the highest levels of Paradise.

Thankful that I have your handwriting on me and you in my heart and soul, Forever.

I love you, I miss you . I will not forget you and I wont let the rest of the world forget either.

I miss you Jacob 😔

WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR TODAY ?

Heaven gained an angel… but we lost our whole world. 🤍

Life after losing Jacob is something I never could have imagined.

The world kept moving.
The sun still came up.
People still laughed.
Days turned into weeks… and somehow, we had to learn how to live in a world where our boy isn’t physically here.

But I believe Jacob is in Heaven now.
Watching us.
Watching his siblings grow.
Watching the little things.
Knowing how deeply he is loved and how desperately he is missed.
I hope he sees us trying.
I hope he knows we’re okay when we smile.
And I hope he knows that every single thing we do, we carry a piece of him with us.

I would give anything for one more hug, one more laugh, one more ordinary day.

Until Allah brings us together again, my beautiful boy. 🤍

You are not here beside us…
but you are forever a part of us.
