The Push-Up Challenge has been a reminder to us of the importance of movement and the benefits of exercise.

So what are the benefits?

1) Increased energy 🏃🏾
Yes, a run might tire your body out, but moderate to vigorous exercise has been found to enhance feelings of energy and decrease feelings of fatigue.

2) Mood stability 😁
Ever felt calmer after a walk, after pilates, or after basketball training? That's no surprise, that's science. Regular physical activity can reduce the symptoms of mild to moderate depression, anxiety, and psychological distress. Exercise also enhances mood through the release of endorphins, a chemical in our body which promotes wellbeing and pleasure.

3) Stress relief 🧘‍♀️
Exercise can moderate our stress response, reducing the psychological and physiological reactions to stress. Exercise also regulates cortisol levels in the body, which helps to manage chronic stress.

4) Self-esteem 🤸
Just won a footy game? Finally learnt how to do crow pose in yoga? Did a new trick at the skate park? Exercise, when it's something you really love, can create a sense of achievement and competence, which can improve our self-worth and self-esteem, ultimately making us feel good about ourselves!

5) A sense of connection and community 🤼
Sports and exercise can offer a social outlet where we can make friends, meet likeminded people, and be a part of a team or community. This can boost feelings of connection and belonging, integral to our wellbeing.

Get moving today and remember the benefits of exercise are seen in how you feel, not how you look.
