💙WEEKEND WELLNESS - Don't forget Dad

With Father's Day just around the corner, why not give dad something that lasts longer than box of chocolates?

Encourage him to look after his health, energy and wellbeing - not just this weekend, but all year round.

A few simple ideas:

🚶Get moving together
Go for a walk, get out on the bike, play a game with kids or head out to do some fishing. It doesn't have to be a workout - just move!

🥩Share a meal
Instead of focusing on "healthy" or "unhealthy" foods, enjoy a meal together that includes plenty of protein, colourful vegetables and foods dad loves.

😴Give recovery some attention
Good sleep, rest and time to switch off are just as important as exercise and nutrition.

💙And most importantly......spend time together
This Father's Day, maybe the best gift is time and making memories together.💙

🌱 Small changes beat perfect habits.

When it comes to nutrition, you don't need to overhaul your entire diet overnight.

In fact, trying to change everything at once can make healthy habits harder to maintain.

Instead, choose ONE small change that feels realistic and build from there.

Here are 3 ways to start:

🥣1. Add protein to breakfast.
Rather than worrying about creating the "perfect" breakfast, simply aim to include one protein-rich food such as Greek yoghurt, eggs, milk, cottage cheese, or baked beans.

🥕2. Add one extra serve of vegetables.
Don't completely redesign your meals. Just ask: "what vegetable could I add to this?" Add some spinach to eggs, carrot and cucumber to lunch, or extra vegetables for dinner.

💧3. Make one drink swap.
If you regularly have soft drinks, juice or sugary drinks, start by swapping one drink a day for water or another lower-sugar option.

The goal isn't perfection.

It's about creating small changes that are realistic enough to repeat.

Once one habit feels automatic, you can build on it.

If you'd like some personalised help turning your nutrition goals into realistic habits, Enaid Nutrition consultations are available.

🚶‍♀️Walking: More than just steps

We're lucky to live in an area with plenty of paths, tracks and beautiful places to explore - including Mount Larcom! 🌿

And while the Mount Larcom walk is definitely more than just a gentle stroll 😅, it's a great reminder that walking can be adapted to different fitness levels and goals.

🌿1. Easy walking for recovery.
A gentle 10-20 minute walk can be a great way to keep moving on recovery days without adding too much training stress.

⛰ 2. Hills for a challenge.
Want to build strength and fitness? Add some hills or choose a more challenging track. Walking uphill can provide a surprisingly good workout!

⏰3. Make it consistent.
You don't need to tackle a mountain every week! Regular walks - whether an easy neighbourhood stroll or challenging track - all contribute to your overall activity.

The key is finding the right type of movement for where you're at, what your body needs and what you enjoy.

So whether you're heading up Mount Larcom or taking a gentle walk around the neighbourhood, get outside and enjoy our beautiful part of the World. ❤️

🍽 Nutrition tip: protein at breakfast can help with appetite.

If you're trying to improve your eating habits, you don't need to overhaul your entire diet. One simple habit is to include a source of protein at breakfast.

Protein can help with fullness and makes breakfast more nutritionally balanced.

Try these 3 habit-building tips:

🥚1. Make it easy
Keep simple options on hand - eggs, greek yoghurt, milk, cottage cheese or baked beans.

🔁2. Attach it to an existing habit
Already having your morning coffee? Make breakfast with protein part of that same routine.

🎯3.Start small
Don't aim for a "perfect" breakfast every day. Aim for 1-2 breakfasts containing protein a week, then build from there.

Small, consistent habits are far more sustainable than trying to change everything all at once. 💪

**Recovery nutrition matters 💪**

Recovery should be **part of the plan** - but it's often the missing piece of the puzzle.

You've finished your training...but the work isn't quite done.

What you eat and drink afterwards helps your body repair, refuel and get ready for your next session.

💪Replace what you have used during your session.
You don't have to lose a huge amount of energy or nutrients for it to affect how you feel. Even a small deficit, repeated over time can start to impact energy, performance and recovery.

🍽 Give your body what it needs to recover.
A combination of protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats after training can help replenish energy stores and support muscle repair.

💧Don't forget fluids.
Replacing the fluids you've lost through sweat can help you feel better and support recovery.

Recovery isn't something you do after the training plan - it's part of the plan.

Need help working out what *your* body needs before, during and after training? That's exactly what I can help with at **Enaid Nutrition**. 🏃🏽‍♀️💪

🦴**Let's talk bone for a minute...**

Bone health isn't something we think about much when we are younger, but it becomes much more important as we get older - particularly for women around and after menopause.

And there are a few simple things we can do to help look after our bones.

💪**Strength training**
This is a big one. Our bones respond to being loaded, so lifting weights and doing weight-bearing exercise helps keep them strong.

🥛**Calcium & Vitamin D**
We need calcium for our bones, but we also need vitamin D to help our bones absorb and use that calcium. So don't just calcium, think **calcium AND vitamin D.

🍳**Don't forget your protein**
Protein isn't just about building muscle. It's also important for bone health. Getting enough protein spread throughout the day is something I encourage my clients to think about as they get older.

None of this needs to be complicated.

Eat well. Get enough calcium and protein. Make sure you're getting vitamin D. Lift some weights and take part in weight-bearing activity.

This is also why I love my **Legs, Bums & Tums** sessions. yes, we work the legs, bums and tums 😂 but we're also doing something really positive for our strength, muscles and bones.

And if you'd rather have something that's tailored specifically to you, I also offer **Personal Training**.

It's never too early - or too late - to start looking after your bones. ❤️

💪**Why work with a personal trainer?**

There's so much fitness information online that it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Knowing where to start - or whether you're doing the right exercises - can be the hardest part.

Working with a personal trainer isn't about pushing yourself to the limits every session. It's about helping you exercise safely, build confidence, and make steady progress towards your goals.

A few benefits include:

✔️Learning the correct technique reduce your risk of injury.
✔️Having a plan that's tailored to your goals, fitness level, and any injuries or limitations.
✔️Staying accountable, especially when motivation is low.
✔️Build strength for everyday life, whether it's carrying the shopping, keeping up with the kids or grandkids, or simply feeling stronger and more confident.

With over 20 years in the fitness industry, a degree in Sport and Exercise Science, and postgraduate qualifications in human nutrition, I enjoy helping people find an approach to exercise that works for them.

If you've been thinking about getting started or getting back into exercise, feel free to send me a message. We can chat about your goals and whether personal training is the right fit for you.

💪Protein + Strength = A powerful combination.

Did you know that getting enough protein becomes even more important as we get older?

Protein plays a vital role in helping to:
✅Maintain muscle mass
✅Support recovery after exercise
✅Build strength
✅Keep you fuller for longer
✅Support healthy ageing

A simple tip is include a quality source of protein with every meal instead of eating most of it at dinner time.

Great options to include:

🥚Eggs
🍗Chicken
🐠Fish
🥣Greek yoghurt
🫘Beans and lentils
🥛Milk
🥩Lean meat
🌱Tofu or tempeh
🥜Nuts and seeds

The other piece of the puzzle? Strength training.

Combining adequate protein with regular resistance exercise helps you build and maintain muscle, improve bone health, and stay strong for everyday life.

If you're looking for supportive, welcoming place to get stronger, why not join our Enaid Legs, Bums, and Tums class?
