There's never been more free advice on what to post, when to post it, and what the algorithm supposedly wants this month. So, knowledge is definitely not the problem.

I know the idea of showing up on video feels like a lot.

It feels uncomfortable and time-consuming and like something that works for other, more confident people, but not for someone who is already stretched thin trying to run a business and do everything else that comes with it.

I'm not going to tell you that it's easy or that you'll love it straight away.

But I will tell you what I see happen when service business owners finally start showing up on video, even imperfectly and reluctantly.

The leads start coming to them.

If your leads have dried up and referrals aren't coming in the way they used to, this one's for you.

The shift I'm seeing in a lot of service businesses right now is that the pipeline that used to feel reliable has stopped being reliable. The business owners who are feeling it most are the ones who never had to think about marketing before because the enquiries flowed in.

Visibility has become the new word of mouth. The good news is you don't need a marketing budget or a production crew to fix it. You just need a phone, ten minutes, and a willingness to show up on video consistently, even if it’s imperfectly.

The key to easy content creation is building a bank of b-roll that you’ve filmed while you go about your day. Here are 3 hiding in your everyday routine:

1. Driving: Pop your phone on your mount and click record as you drive. Easy peasy, and you don't even need to say a word.
2. Morning walk: Film the path ahead with your feet on the ground. 10 seconds is more than enough.
3. Breakfast: Prop your phone on the kitchen table and film yourself pouring coffee or making cereal. It’ll be the most human 10 seconds you'll film all week.

1. Your discomfort means you care about doing it well. Your audience will see someone who showed up anyway.

2. You don't sound weird. You sound like yourself. And "like yourself" is exactly what your ideal client needs to hear before they decide to trust you with their business.

3. The version of you that's slightly awkward on camera is still infinitely more compelling than the business that never shows its face.

4. You're not an actor who needs to perform. You're an expert who needs to talk. You already do that every single day on discovery calls and with clients.

5. The discomfort will get smaller every single time you film. Every day, you’ll see more evidence that nothing bad actually happens when you post.
