Can you relate?
When you are fully focused on your goal but you either find yourself quietly sidestepping it and then making excuses to justify what happened, or you get a persistant resistance to implementing the plan and every action has to be forced. Either way, it feels like self- sabotage.
That word, sabotage, does a lot of damage. It makes the part of you that resists sound like an enemy inside your own skin. Something to defeat with more discipline, more restriction, more willpower through gritted teeth.
But what if it isn't sabotage at all? What if it's a part of you still guarding an “order” it was given a long time ago?
Old orders can say things like:
- Stay small
- Play it safe
- Don’t get hurt
- Protect yourself
- Don’t get your hopes up
Somewhere in the past those orders made sense. You had a negative experience and installed an order to prevent it happening again.
That's not an enemy fighting against you. The intention was good. Perhaps its job was to keep you safe, but now it’s holding you back.
Here's what changes when you see it that way. Instead of trying to overpower the part of you that resists, you get curious about it. What is it actually protecting? Not "why am I so undisciplined," but "what is this part trying to do for me?"
Almost always, underneath the resistance, you find something you'd never fight against. Safety. Self-respect. Not wanting to be hurt again. The order might be outdated, but the thing it's protecting usually isn't the problem.
Once you can see that, you can check those values against the vision you're aiming for.
There is a way to get your vision and your values aligned so that you can be safe, and still move forward.
This is the quiet, unglamorous work that sits underneath real lasting change.
It’s the work we do in the Meet Your Loyal Soldier experience on 27 August. It’s free, it’s live and there will be no recording.
