Otaku Bonsai

Otaku Bonsai started as a bonsai enthusiasts dream, and is now a reality! We have been growing and studying bonsai for over 5 years now, and we want to share the beauty that is Bonsai with the world, and help to promote and grow Australian bonsai. At the moment we are primarily focusing on bonsai service and maintenance, restyling, general care and helping people to learn more about Bonsai. We can

repot your bonsai, prune it to promote healthy growth, carry out wiring and other techniques to style your bonsai or bonsai-in-progress to make sure it is healthy, happy and looking it's best. We will also try to get your unhealthy or sick bonsai back to being vigorous and beautiful, however this can not be guaranteed every time. Please feel free to contact us with an questions or queries you may have, and we will endeavour to fulfil them.

OK, so I gave it a really good prune. Opened it up a lot for more light to get in, but it also helped to point out the trees faults and areas that I need to improve/fix.
The taper on the main left trunk is the obvious one, but also the right trunk needs work too. The point where it has been cut in the past on the right will need some serious attention.
I need to decide whether to shorten the left hand and regrow a whole new top to help with taper, or maybe a branch will pop up in a good place for a sacrifice.
At any rate, I will let it recover for a while before i do too much more on it.

Hello friends :-)
This is a fairly large guava I recently acquired from an older gentleman who was selling his collection due to his health. He said he had the tree for 20 years.
The first thing I need to do to it is prune it back and have a really good look at what is underneath the bushy foliage

So here is the final result from yesterdays attack in the Murraya.
I removed most of the large branches as they had grown too thick. The first left branch is also too thick, however it is in a good position and has good movement. I will wait and see.
The first right hand branch is far too long, but I pruned it back to try and encourage back budding so I can really shorten it a lot.
I know a Ten-jin isn't usually seen on a Murraya, but those branches were going to go anyway and I thought I would try something different to see how it looks.
After a hard prune, some basic wiring and some jinning, I am happy that this tree should have a good future ahead of it. Now to let it rest and give me some more branches :-)

Hello friends and followers!!
I apologise for such a lengthy delay since my last post. I have started a new job working away from home, so I don't get much posting time.
Here is a Murraya i am doing some work on today. Needs a big haircut and some big decisions to be made!!

Another Ficus Natalensis. Same age as the last one, but has a bit more size from the bigger grow pot.
I had accidentally left some wire on for too long which had caused some inverse taper.
It does have a decent size base though.

So I endes up going with this front.
Now I know that carving isn't something you *usually* do on a Ficus, however, I got a new rotary carving tool and decided to try it out. I figured this tree is a good candidate as it was never going to be an amazing tree.
I am happy with the results, adds a point of interest in my opinion.

After a bit of a prune... what are all of your thoughts on the best front??

Here is a little Ficus Natalensis that I haven't worked on for too long. Before and after defoliation and removing a large, dead branch.

And after that I gave it more of a trin and then wires it.Done for the moment to recover and grow.
