Over 70 and finding stairs harder than they used to?

Peta is 78 and in this session she was working on the muscles at the front of her legs.

These muscles help with stairs at home, steps out in public, and feeling steadier when moving around.

What we loved here was not just the exercise. It was the small improvement in how she placed her feet, giving her a more stable base.

Small steps still count. Especially when they help you keep doing all the things you want to be doing.

Ian is 71 and working on his squat technique.

In this session, a small change to his foot position helped him find a more comfortable and balanced movement.

That’s the value of working with an Exercise Physiologist.

It’s not just about doing the exercise.
It’s about finding the version that works for the person in front of us.

Small changes can make a big difference to confidence, control and how the movement feels.

Over 60 and worried about your balance?

The good news is that balance can be trained in simple ways at home.

Standing near the bench, the TV, or another safe surface, you can practise holding steady positions for short periods of time.

It does not need to leave you sore.
It just needs to be safe, consistent, and challenging enough for you.

Small balance practice, done regularly, can help build confidence and reduce your chance of falling over time.

Some exercises are about more than strength.

In this session, they were working on hand control, wrist position and upper body strength.

The goal wasn’t to make the exercise look perfect.

The goal was to find the version that worked for Melissa, then build from there.

That’s what tailored exercise should look like.

Supported, specific, and focused on small improvements over time.

Alvin is 91 and still building strength.

Here they were working on his strength over head. This is the type of strength that helps with reaching, lifting and keeping Alvin independent.

What we love here is the conversation around pain.

Not all discomfort means stop.
Not all exercise needs to be pushed harder straight away.

Sometimes the best progress is staying at the right level, building confidence, and progressing when the body is ready.

Strength training looks different for everyone.
But it matters at every age.

What’s the difference between a physiotherapist and an EP?

Written and spoken by a (biased) Exercise Physiologist

There’s 2 main things.

Number 1 - Exercise Physiologists work with people after the first 6 weeks.

If you have a condition that has lasted 6 or more weeks or is likely to last more than 6 weeks than an Exercise Physiologist could be a great fit.

Number 2 - Exercise Physiologists find out what you need through testing and then give you a tailored exercise program based off that.

Number 3 - Exercise Physiologists are the experts in Exercise. We don’t just give you exercises to do and wish you good luck, we work alongside you whilst you are exercising so you feel safe and supported along the way!

Cathy’s story

Like so many others Cathy has Osteoarthritis and Osteopoenia.

But this didn’t hold her back. Rather, this was her sign to do something about it.

Now she’s moving and feeling better than she has in a while!

“It’s not challenging, it’s life enhancing”

Couldn’t have said it better, Mark!

We think if the world had the same view on exercise it would be a lot healthier place.
