🍍 Our intrepid travellers, Marcus and Megan, are always up for an adventure!

Marcus recently told Megan he’d love to return to the Big Pineapple, a favourite destination from the past. So, they made it happen and had an absolute ball! 💙

At Xavier, support children and young people to follow their interests, make their own choices and create special memories along the way. 😊

💬 This Speech Pathology Week, we’re celebrating the many possibilities that communication can create.

At Xavier, our Speech Pathologists support children and young people to communicate in ways that work for them. Because communication can help us:

💛 Connect with the people around us
📚 Learn and understand the world
🌱 Grow in confidence and independence
🤝 Belong and build meaningful relationships
✨ Choose and express our preferences
🙌 Participate in everyday activities and the things we enjoy
🌟 Thrive as our unique selves

Communication looks different for everyone. Whether it’s through words, gestures, signs, pictures, technology or another form of communication, every child and young person deserves to be heard and understood. 💛

🌱 Progress looks different for every child

When it comes to physical development, there is no single path and no one-size-fits-all milestone. 💛

Progress might be:

💡Trying something new
🙌Building confidence
😀Increasing independence
🧩Participating more fully in daily activities
🎖Achieving a personal goal

Every step forward matters.

By focusing on strengths, participation and meaningful outcomes, we can help children thrive in ways that are right for them.

As Queensland's peak body for children with developmental delay, we help families navigate the support available and integrate support into daily routines. If you'd like further information, reach out to: [email protected] 🌟

🎤 Good times at Xavier Place! 🎶

Jess is on the mic, Joel is singing along and Music Therapist Becca is enjoying the Friday vibes! 💛

There’s nothing quite like a singalong to bring everyone together.

And Joel’s verdict? “What a good song!” 🎶🙌

You may have heard about changes to the NDIS, including the introduction of Thriving Kids.

Thriving Kids is a new pathway for children aged eight and under with developmental delay and/or autism who have low to moderate support needs.

Importantly, the NDIS will continue to support children with permanent and significant disability and higher support needs.

We know families may have questions about what these changes could mean for their child and supports.

Our latest article shares what we know so far about the NDIS reforms and Thriving Kids, including the latest information for Queensland.

🎒 Building endurance for busy days

Kindy, school and community activities can involve lots of movement and concentration. Endurance is the ability to keep participating in activities over a period of time, whether that's playing, learning, moving or spending time with others in a group activity or sport. 💛

Children build endurance in different ways and at different rates.

Some ways to support your child include:

📆 Incorporating movement into daily routines
✅Allowing opportunities for regular activity and rest
💜Supporting participation in activities that are meaningful to them

Building endurance isn't about keeping up with others. It's about supporting each child to participate as fully as possible in the activities that matter to them.

As Queensland's peak body for children with developmental delay, we help families navigate the support available. If you'd like further information, reach out to: [email protected] 🌟

Getting cosy for National Pyjama Day! 🧸💙

Maddie, Jess, Riley and Tim, along with the Xavier Place team, got into the spirit of National Pyjama Day on Friday, in their favourite comfy PJs.

National Pyjama Day raises awareness and funds to support children in foster care, helping provide the guidance, connection and support they need to thrive.

A little bit of fun, a lot of smiles and an important cause close to our hearts. 💙

🌟 Building confidence through participation

At Xavier, we know that every child deserves opportunities to participate in the physical aspects of family life, education, play and sport. 💛

Participation might look different for every child, and that's okay.

Ways to support participation in physical activity include:

💜Focusing on what your child can do
💪Adapting activities to suit their strengths and support needs
😄Creating opportunities for choice and independence
🙌 Celebrating achievements that are meaningful to your child

When children are supported to participate, they can build confidence, skills and connections.

As Queensland's peak body for children with developmental delay, we help families navigate the support available to enable children to take part at their own pace. If you'd like further information, reach out to: [email protected] 🌟
