Important NDIS Update

The National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Act 2026 has now become law.

Our team has broken down the timeline of changes and what they may mean for you, with easy-read and comprehensive information available to help you understand what’s ahead.

πŸ“₯ These resources are free to download from our website and we welcome you to share with your family, friends, networks and community.

Most importantly, we’re here to support you through these changes. We encourage you to continue using your NDIS plan as you normally would and to seek the support you need.

For anyone who has ever wondered whether there is life after a stroke, our inspiring client, Judith Barlow, is living proof that there absolutely is!

This week, approximately 150 guests, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and pharmacists attended Judith's presentation at Ipswich Hospital. She shared her firsthand journey, speaking about the exceptional care she received during her four-month stay in hospital, as well as the ongoing support she receives through the NDIS and mainstream supports, at My Therapy.

Thanks to this combined support, Judith continues to actively engage in her community and pursue her passion for the creative arts.

Judith's story is a powerful reminder that a positive attitude, combined with the right support network, can make an incredible difference. She is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through determination, resilience, and the dedication of healthcare professionals and support services working together.

We are incredibly proud to be part of Judith's journey.

πŸ“’ NDIS STA Update

Changes to Short-Term Accommodation (STA) are now in effect.

If you use STA, speak with your provider about how these changes may affect your future bookings.

Short-term accommodation (STA) is an NDIS support that gives participants time apart from their usual care arrangements. We’ve made some changes to help participants only claim for the supports they actually receive.

From today, we’ve replaced the previous fixed daily rate with separate line items for the costs of:

πŸ‘‰ participant accommodation

πŸ‘‰ support worker accommodation

πŸ‘‰ support hours from a support worker.

Participants who use STA supports should talk to their providers about what this change means for them and any future bookings they may have.

NDIS update – 22 April 2026 πŸ“’βœ¨

The Australian Government announced a proposed set of reforms to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), focused on long-term sustainability and system improvements.

Key points:
β€’ The changes aim to slow the growth of the NDIS and keep costs sustainable over time
β€’ Eligibility is expected to shift toward functional capacity assessments rather than diagnosis alone
β€’ Participant numbers are projected to reduce over several years as new criteria are introduced
β€’ Measures to address fraud, improve provider oversight, and introduce clearer rules are part of the plan
β€’ Some funding areas (like social participation) may be more tightly managed, while core supports are expected to remain

What happens next:
β€’ Legislation is expected to be introduced with the upcoming federal budget
β€’ Changes will be phased in, with some elements not starting until 2028

This is a significant reform package, but it is still subject to legislation and consultation. Further detail and implementation guidance will be important in understanding the full impact for participants and providers.
