It’s about the people behind it.

Because when it comes to your vision, you shouldn’t have to settle.

If you ever spot an eye turn in your child, it's important to have it checked out by a Paediatric Ophthalmologist. An eye turn is when one or both eyes turns in or out causing the eyes to look "crossed".

Sometimes, an eye turn can be very noticeable but other times, it can be subtle. Sometimes it's constant and other times only appearing when your child is tired.

We often ask parents to bring in any photos that might look suspicious so that we can determine if your child does truly have an eye turn along with a number of different assessments to determine if your child does in fact have an eye turn.

If you have suddenly noticed your child's eye looking "funny", they're rubbing their eyes more, shutting one eye when they're tired or the eyes don't seem to be working together as a pair, make sure you book in an appointment to see one of our Paediatric Ophthalmologists to have them assessed.

You might have heard of the term "lazy eye" but what does it really mean?

A lazy eye also known as amblyopia happens when one eye doesn’t develop vision properly and the brain starts to rely more on the stronger eye.

The tricky part?

Children often don’t realise anything is wrong.

They adapt.

They might cover one eye, tilt their head, or struggle with depth without being able to explain it.

The good news is that when caught early, amblyopia can often be treated effectively. Treatment might include glasses, patching, or other simple interventions.

If you’ve noticed any of these signs, it’s worth getting their eyes checked. Early detection can make a big difference.

You might have noticed your child sitting really close to the tv or holding the iPad right up to their face. Most parents assume it’s just a habit. But it can actually be a sign your child is struggling to see clearly in the distance.

Short-sightedness (myopia) in kids is becoming more common especially with increased screen time. If this feels familiar, it might be worth getting their eyes checked.

Here at Northern Beaches Cataract Retina Glaucoma, we have two Ophthalmologists with speciality in Paediatrics who will be able to assess your child's eyes.

Call us on 9981 2033 and speak to one of our friendly staff to book your child for their assessment today.

People often ask, "What is an Orthoptist" and "What's the difference between an Orthoptist and an Optometrist?"

Orthoptists are allied health professional specialising in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye conditions. In most scenarios, Orthoptists work closely with Ophthalmologists to help with the diagnosis of eye conditions. They also perform all pre-screening testing and surgical aftercare.

Orthoptists play an important role in screening patients, keeping the clinic flowing smoothly and assisting to help answer questions.

We're incredibly lucky to have the best team looking after our patients and doctors.

If you're lucky enough to be booked in this week for an appointment, be sure to say hello and wish our Orthoptists a Happy Orthoptic Week!

Did you know two large studies, the Age-Related Eye Disease Studies (AREDS) showed that the daily intake of a select combination of nutrients may reduce the risk of progression of ARMD in some people?

Supplements are there to help lower the risk or progression for patients but does not provide a cure and should only be taken if you have ARMD.

Not all AREDS2 supplements are the same, so it’s important you get a recommendation from your eye health professional about which one is appropriate for you.

If you haven't booked in an appointment to have your macular checked, this is your sign to get assessed. Call us on (02) 9981 2033 and speak to one of our friendly staff.
