It is a day to pause, reflect, learn, and acknowledge the importance of truth, respect, and understanding.

By listening to one another and valuing different experiences and perspectives, we can help build stronger, more inclusive communities for future generations.

🌻Today, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we recognise the importance of creating a world where everyone can access, participate and thrive, regardless of ability.

At Autism Abilities, our Occupational Therapy team is passionate about supporting individuals to build independence, confidence and meaningful participation in everyday life. From sensory supports and emotional regulation strategies to improving daily living skills and creating accessible environments, we work alongside individuals and families to help remove barriers and promote inclusion.

Accessibility is more than physical access, it’s about ensuring every person feels supported, empowered and valued in their community. 💙

🌻We're wrapping up the month by highlighting our OT Vania and Senior OT Yuho, who coincidentally share the same birthday in April! Our allied health team works incredibly hard, its great to see them taking a moment to celebrate their day. We are so happy to have celebrated two birthdays AND two incredible therapists. Happy April everyone! 🎂

🌻We're more than halfway through April now, and today we wanted to highlight our amazing Occupational Therapist, Angbeen, who bridges the physical distance between herself and the participant with a can-do attitude and sheer determination! 🌟

Here are some reasons why telehealth appointments may be right for you:

• No travel is required, which reduces travel costs, stress, burden, and time.
• It often allows other caregivers, family members, or external health professionals to join the session, which can help facilitate a multidisciplinary approach.
• It helps reflect the home environment and apply it effectively within the session, as the client receives the session at home.
• You can wear your sweatpants and nobody would know!

Whether you live a great distance away or have a busy schedule that doesn't allow for it, telehealth breaks down barriers, making therapy accessible and convenient for everyone.

Today we’re highlighting Janelle, one of our PBS Practitioners, and her clients. Through her person-centred approach, compassion, and use of evidence-based strategies, Janelle created a fun and engaging chocolate-making session for everyone to enjoy. 🪺

World Autism Awareness Day is on April 2, and throughout the month of April we focus on increasing understanding and acceptance of autism. While this month highlights the importance of inclusion, we encourage everyone to embrace inclusion every day.

At Autism Abilities, we feel incredibly fortunate to support and be part of the autistic community. Every day, we witness individuals building confidence, developing new skills, and enhancing their quality of life.

This month, we’ll be celebrating the achievements of our clients, along with recognising our dedicated team who go above and beyond—not only in supporting their clients, but also in advocating for families, friends, and the broader community beyond their working hours. 🩵
