📝🎯 In our most recent feedback survey, we had lots of practitioners asking us to incorporate B12 in our Nutristat testing.

🔬 Most practitioners are accustomed to evaluating total B12 on standard lab panels, so including it on the NutriSTAT allows for direct comparison with familiar reference values.

📊 Having both total and active B12 measurements provides a more comprehensive assessment and can help identify deficiency earlier.

💡 For example, low active B12 with normal total B12 may indicate functional depletion before deficiency becomes apparent on standard testing.

🩸 Total B12: Measures all circulating vitamin B12 in the blood. ⚠️ However, a large portion of this (approximately 70–90%) is bound to transport proteins and is not biologically active or available for cellular use. 📉 As a result, total B12 levels may appear normal even in cases of functional deficiency, since inactive forms are also included in the measurement.

⚡ Active B12 (holotranscobalamin): Reflects the fraction of B12 that is biologically active and directly available for use in the body's metabolic and biochemical processes.

Among positive patients:

🔹 73% carried vacA: a cytotoxin gene linked to gastric tissue damage and ulcer formation.
🔹 58% carried cagA: a WHO-classified carcinogenic virulence factor associated with increased gastric cancer risk.

🔬 Not all H. pylori strains carry the same pathogenic potential. Virulence factor profiling provides a more complete picture, helping practitioners better assess risk and make more informed clinical decisions.

🤔 Could mast cell activity be driving your symptoms?
