🧠 Neurotransmitter ratios can reveal far more than individual markers alone…

⚖️ HVA / DOPAC Ratio An indirect measure of dopamine metabolism balance
⬆️ High ratio = increased dopamine turnover
⬇️ Low ratio = reduced conversion of downstream dopamine
💡Helpful for assessing Parkinsonism disorders, ADHD, mood disorders, and the impact of psychiatric medications

⚖️ HVA / VMA Ratio Evaluates dopamine vs. norepinephrine/epinephrine balance
💡Useful for investigating stress-related, neurological, and psychological conditions

⚖️ Kynurenic / Quinolinic Ratio Provides insight into the tryptophan metabolism pathway and the balance between neuroprotective vs. neuroexcitatory activity
💡Relevant for depression, schizophrenia, CFS, Alzheimer's disease, autoimmune, and inflammatory conditions

⚖️ Quinolinic Acid / 5-HIAA Ratio Helps assess excitotoxicity and inflammatory conditions
💡Can support evaluation of neuroinflammation, immune activation, depression, chronic stress, and neurodegenerative disorders

🧬 Looking at ratios, not just isolated markers, can provide deeper clinical insight into neurological and metabolic health.

🧪 When should you consider Organic Acids Testing?

🎓 This webinar was designed to help guide practitioners through the interpretation process, from understanding the new markers to confidently communicating findings and clinical relevance with patients.

🧬 Sometimes the root cause goes far beyond gut symptoms. The NEW 120+ Marker Organic Acids Profile was designed to provide deeper insight into metabolic function across 11 clinical domains, helping practitioners connect symptoms to underlying biochemical imbalances.

🩺 In this webinar, Consulting Physician Jacqui Evans walks through:
✔️ New markers
✔️ Updated report structure
✔️ Clinical interpretation strategies
✔️ Clinical case reviews
✔️ How to communicate findings with patients

🧬 Not all microbiome tests are built the same.

👩‍⚕️ Built with practitioners, for practitioners.
We worked directly with clinicians and practitioner feedback to design reports that prioritize what actually matters: clear insights, clinical relevance, and actionable data.

🚀 Turnaround Time You Can Rely On:
*Across all tests, turnaround times average at 7 days*. Here is a more specific breakdown:

• Microbiome Basic (Test Code 2207): as little as 4 days (processing time may vary)
• Complete Microbiome Mapping (Test Code 2206):

Up to 70% of children with ASD present with gastrointestinal symptoms 🧩

Most common include:
💩 Chronic constipation
🚽 Diarrhea
🔄 Alternating bowel patterns
🤕 Abdominal pain
🔥 Acid reflux

These gut issues are often linked to:
😴 Sleep disturbances
😠 Irritability & aggression
🧠 Behavioral challenges

Emerging research suggests early-life toxin exposure may disrupt the microbiome and gut barrier 🦠🛡️

🔍 Testing arabinose alone isn’t enough, you need arabinitol to complete the picture

🧪 Arabinose may point to yeast or fungal overgrowth, but arabinitol shows how active and metabolically engaged that overgrowth really is

⚖️ The ratio between the two helps differentiate true dysbiosis vs. carbohydrate fermentation or absorption issues

💡 Without both markers, you could be missing the why behind the imbalance, not just the presence of it

🧬 SCFAs play a critical role in gut function:
• Regulate absorption of water, electrolytes, and nutrients
• Maintain intestinal barrier integrity
• Fuel colonocytes
• Salvage unabsorbed carbohydrates
• Support commensal bacterial diversity
• Act as key anti-inflammatory mediators

🔍 But not all Short Chain Fatty Acids tell the same story:
🔹 Butyrate
Primary fuel for colon cells. Supports barrier integrity and reduces inflammation.
🔹 Acetate
Most abundant SCFA in circulation. Involved in appetite control and systemic metabolism.
🔹 Propionate
Supports glucose homeostasis and plays a key role in liver metabolic function.
🔹 Valerate
Less abundant but important. Associated with microbial diversity and gut balance.

⚠️ If you’re not testing SCFAs, you’re missing a major piece of the gut health picture.

💡 Understanding each SCFA individually helps reveal what’s really happening in the gut.
