Facial ageing and body changes aren’t assessed from a single feature alone.

When planning skin rejuvenation or body contouring, a full clinical assessment is carried out to understand skin quality, underlying tissue, and overall structural support, as well as individual treatment goals.

This allows for a considered approach to care, whether that involves surgical options, non-surgical treatments, or a staged combination over time.

At FNQ Plastic Surgery & MediSpa, treatment planning is based on anatomical assessment and medical suitability, with each plan developed to align with the individual patient.

All procedures are subject to clinical assessment and suitability following consultation.

Not all plastic surgery procedures are cosmetic; many focus on restoring form and function after illness or injury.

Plastic and reconstructive surgery plays an important role in restoring function and supporting patients after trauma, burns, congenital differences, or other medical conditions. It is also commonly involved in repairing and reconstructing tissues following treatment for skin cancer and other diseases.

While cosmetic procedures aim to enhance appearance, reconstructive procedures are often directed at addressing structural changes, improving movement or comfort, and helping patients return to daily activities. These procedures may also help restore symmetry or replace tissue that has been lost or damaged.

At FNQ Plastic Surgery & MediSpa, care is guided by a thorough clinical assessment led by our specialist team. Treatment options are recommended based on your individual medical needs and goals, ensuring that both functional and aesthetic considerations are appropriately addressed.

Capsular contracture refers to the tightening of the natural scar tissue (capsule) that forms around a breast implant.

This process can cause the breast to feel firmer than expected and may, in some cases, lead to changes in shape or position. It can occur at varying degrees and is assessed clinically if symptoms develop.

If you notice changes such as increasing firmness, discomfort, or visible differences, a medical review can help determine the appropriate management.

How do you know if your breast implant have ruptured?

Breast implant rupture may cause visible or symptomatic changes, but it can also be completely silent and only detected on imaging.

Breast implant rupture can present differently depending on whether the implant is saline or silicone, and on individual anatomy and circumstances. Potential signs can include altered breast size or shape, new asymmetry, or changes in firmness or contour.

Potential signs of rupture may include decreased or increased breast volume, new swelling, or a feeling of heaviness. Some patients notice discomfort, tenderness, or palpable irregularities such as lumps, folds, or firmness within the breast.

In some cases, particularly with silicone implants, rupture may be clinically silent and not associated with obvious symptoms. These ruptures are often identified only through imaging, such as ultrasound or MRI, performed for routine surveillance or investigation of subtle changes.

If you notice any changes in breast size, shape, feel, or experience new discomfort or concern relating to your implants, you should arrange a clinical review with your surgeon or healthcare provider. They can perform an examination and arrange appropriate imaging to help clarify whether an implant complication, such as rupture, is present.

Before & 4 weeks post one Alma Hybrid C02 laser.

You may notice some initial improvement in your skin as it heals; however, results continue to develop over time. Many patients experience a decrease in pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, along with an overall improvement in skin quality and texture. Results typically become more apparent over the following weeks and can continue to improve for up to 3 months after your Alma Hybrid CO₂ laser treatment.

Preparation begins well before the day of surgery and often includes a pre-operative assessment where your health, medications, and home situation are reviewed. You will usually receive specific instructions about fasting, medications, smoking and alcohol, and any skin preparation required for your particular procedure.

Many hospitals emphasise the importance of planning transport to and from hospital ahead of time. It is also strongly recommended that someone stay with you for at least the first 24 hours after day surgery, as you may still be affected by anaesthesia and need help with medications, meals, and personal care.

Guidelines commonly suggest preparing a safe, comfortable recovery space at home before surgery, including easy access to essentials, any equipment you may need, and pre-arranged help with tasks like cooking and housekeeping. Having prescriptions filled in advance and organising items such as loose clothing, toiletries, and any assistive devices can make the early recovery period smoother and reduce stress.

Asking questions early allows the team to explain and educate, adjust plans (for example, around medications), and make sure you are properly prepared for both surgery and recovery.

A tan is not a sign of skin health – it is your skin’s defence response to DNA damage from ultraviolet (UV) radiation. In FNQ, we experience high levels of both UVA and UVB, which makes consistent protection especially important.

UVB rays are shorter and more energetic. They cause sunburn, direct DNA damage, and play a major role in the development of skin cancers such as melanoma and non‑melanoma skin cancers.

UVA rays pe*****te more deeply into the skin. They accelerate collagen breakdown, leading to premature ageing (wrinkles, laxity) and also contribute to skin cancer through indirect DNA damage.

FNQ’s tropical latitude, high UV index, and outdoor lifestyle mean higher cumulative exposure to both UVA and UVB, often even on cloudy days and outside peak “burn” times.

Today is Sunscreen Day – a reminder that daily, broad‑spectrum SPF (protecting against both UVA and UVB), along with hats, clothing and shade, is not just about preventing burns but about reducing long‑term DNA damage, slowing photoageing, and lowering skin cancer risk. Don’t skip the SPF.

ALMA HYBRID CO2 LASER RESURFACING

➡️ Swipe right for the skin healing journey

The Alma Hybrid CO2 laser, a gold standard treatment combining ablative CO2 and non-ablative 1570nm wavelengths for superior skin rejuvenation.

This advanced fractional resurfacing treatment creates precise microchannels in the skin, removing damaged outer layers while simultaneously stimulating deep collagen production in the dermis. The dual-action approach delivers dramatic improvements in skin texture, tone, and overall quality with optimized healing compared to traditional CO2 lasers.

At just 2 weeks post-treatment, notice the refined skin texture, reduced appearance of fine lines, and improved skin tone. Collagen remodeling continues for up to 6-12 months following treatment, meaning results will progressively improve over time.

This treatment is performed exclusively by Doctor led Medical Practitioners at FNQ Plastic Surgery & MediSpa, ensuring the highest standards of safety, precision, and clinical outcomes.

Happy International Nurses Day 💙

Today we celebrate all the nurses around the world but in particular the nurses who are at the heart of plastic and reconstructive surgery – preparing patients, supporting them in theatre, monitoring recovery, and providing calm, compassionate care at every step of the journey.

To the incredible perioperative, recovery, and clinic nurses we work with: thank you for your skill, advocacy, and attention to detail, and for helping our patients feel safe, informed, and supported through their surgical experience. You make an extraordinary difference, one procedure at a time.
