Yesterday was IRONMAN Cairns, and every year I make a point of cheering the athletes because what they’re doing is truly extraordinary.
For those who don’t know, an IRONMAN consists of:
🏊 3.8km swim
🚴 180km bike ride
🏃 42.2km marathon
All completed in a single day. That’s a total of 226km of racing and takes 10hrs on average.
And athletes pay $1,400 just for the privilege of entering the event 😳
Which begs the question…
Why would anyone voluntarily pay money to put themselves through that much discomfort?
Because IRONMAN isn’t really about swimming, cycling or running.
It’s about proving something to yourself.
It’s about discipline.
Consistency.
Resilience.
Delayed gratification.
It’s about reshaping your IDENTITY.
Years ago I completed a half marathon (21 km).
Compared to a full IRONMAN, that’s tiny.
But for me, it was huge and that experience taught me something I’ll never forget.
It gave me confidence.
I learned (again) that if I committed to a goal, followed a plan, showed up consistently and trusted the process, I could achieve something that once felt impossible.
That kind of self-belief carries over into every area of life - Business. Parenting. Relationships. Health.
You start trusting yourself.
Self efficacy 💪
That’s why events like this inspire me so much.
The lesson here isn’t that everyone needs to become an endurance athlete, but that you should challenge yourself in some way. And show up consistently for your health goals 🙌
Walk further.
Get stronger.
Lift weights.
Improve your nutrition.
Sleep better.
Take ownership of your health.
That’s exactly what I teach in Transform.
So as you watch this incredible female champion cross the finish line, don’t think “I could never do that”
Instead ask yourself:
“What is MY next step?”
Because transformation doesn’t start with 226km.
It starts with one decision.
One workout.
One healthy meal.
One walk around the block.
And then repeating it often enough that you become the person you want to be.
👏 Congratulations to every single athlete who crossed that finish line yesterday. You earned every cheer. (Switch sound on)
