Meet the Team

Gnyala is one of the friendly faces women and girls see when they arrive at Jalbu Hub.

As a full-time receptionist, her role is about helping people feel welcome, calm and supported from the moment they walk through the door. She manages appointments, answers questions, supports the clinical team and helps keep the Hub running smoothly each day.

But for Gnyala, the role is also about creating a space where women and girls feel comfortable asking for help.

“What stays with me most is how often women downplay their own needs,” she says.

“I’ve had women apologise for making a fuss about their health, and that reminds me how much women carry.”

Jalbu Hub was created so women and girls have a safe, welcoming place to access care, ask questions, learn about their health and feel supported without shame or judgement.

Gnyala loves seeing women grow in confidence, whether they are coming in for a check-up, asking a question for the first time, or joining a community activity.

As a mum, she understands how much women juggle every day. That shapes the way she welcomes people and reminds her that behind every appointment is a real story, real responsibilities and real strength.

At Jalbu Hub, Gnyala hopes every woman and girl feels safe, respected and supported, and knows they can come back whenever they need care or guidance.

Yesterday, Jalbu Hub hosted Her Heart Health, a free community health event for women and girls focused on learning how to keep our hearts healthy and strong.

The session created space for community to yarn with local health workers, ask questions and learn more about heart health, including signs and symptoms to look out for, prevention, and the support available for women, girls and families.

A big thank you to Melinda Pascoe from Wuchopperen’s Rheumatic Heart Disease team, and the Queensland Health and Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service Cardiac Team for sharing their knowledge and supporting this important conversation.

Heart health is about more than one appointment. It is about knowing your body, getting support early, and taking steps that help keep you strong for your family, community and future generations.

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the session a welcoming and supportive space.

Meet the Team

At Jalbu Hub, Dr Amanda Blinco brings a wealth of experience in women’s health and a calm, thoughtful approach to every consultation. As a GP, her days are centred around supporting women and girls through all stages of life, from periods and contraception through to pregnancy, menopause and everything in between.

Jalbu Hub was established to create a dedicated, culturally safe space where women and girls can access care that is respectful, supportive and built around their needs. Dr Amanda’s approach reflects that purpose. She understands that for many, asking questions or seeking care has not always felt easy, and she works to make those conversations comfortable, informed and judgement free.

For Dr Amanda, the most rewarding moments are often the simplest. When someone leaves with clarity, understanding and confidence in their health, it is a reminder of why she does what she does. Those moments sit at the heart of what Jalbu Hub is here to provide.

She also values being part of the Jalbu Hub team and describes her colleagues as a joy to work alongside. That shared commitment to culturally safe, women centred care is what makes the space feel welcoming and connected.

Culturally safe support, for Dr Amanda, starts with listening. It is about understanding each person’s story and recognising that they are the decision maker in their own health journey. Her role is to provide guidance, information and options so each person feels supported to make the choices that are right for them.

Above all, she hopes every person who walks through the doors of Jalbu Hub feels welcome, safe, heard, respected and supported.

And a fun fact about Dr Amanda. She absolutely loves tomatoes and eats them like most people eat apples.

Hello Team,Her Health, Her Voice ☕💚

What a beautiful way to celebrate International Women’s Day 💛

Last Thursday, we shared a relaxed morning tea with women from across Cairns; coming together to connect, chat, and support one another.

Her Health, Her Voice was all about creating a welcoming space where women could feel comfortable, heard, and supported. Over a cuppa, we shared conversations about wellbeing, safety, and accessing local support services - plus plenty of smiles and connection.

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful partners:
🤍 Cairns Sexual Health Team
🤍 NQ Women’s Legal Service

Your time and expertise helped make the morning truly meaningful.
We’re so grateful to everyone who came along, shared their thoughts, and helped shape what comes next at Jalbu Hub. Your voices guide what we do.

If you couldn’t make it and would like to connect with any of the services shared, reach out - we’re always here to help.

You belong here. Your voice matters. 💚

In our video, Aju, our social worker at Jalbu talks about his role. Putting values into action and working with communities to rebuild trust and create meaningful change.

The only sustainable way forward is together. 🌍
