Today, we are celebrating something truly special 🎉

Michael recently achieved something he never thought possible… yesterday, he played his very first game with the CQ All Abilities Touch Football Team 🏈

While stepping onto the field may seem like a simple moment to some, for Michael it represented months of courage, persistence, growth and believing in himself 🌱

Over the past several months, Michael has achieved remarkable progress across so many areas of his life 🌟

🫶🏽 Greater independence
🫶🏽 Increased confidence and self advocacy
🫶🏽 Stronger communication skills
🫶🏽 Safe and meaningful community participation
🫶🏽 Improved self care and self management
🫶🏽 Better emotional wellbeing
🫶🏽 Growth in executive functioning
🫶🏽 Increased tolerance of change and social situations
🫶🏽 Improved physical health
🫶🏽 Meaningful friendships and social connection

Most importantly, Michael has rediscovered hope 🦋

These achievements did not happen by chance📈

They are the result of Michael’s incredible determination combined with an intentional, coordinated team of people who believed in him every single day ☣️

A huge thank you to key support worker, Elise, whose consistent, compassionate support has helped Michael build confidence and achieve goals he once thought were out of reach 💫

To our Positive Behaviour Support Team, thank you for providing evidence informed strategies, coaching and guidance that empowered Michael to build lasting skills and independence 🧠

To our Operations Team, thank you for the countless hours behind the scenes coordinating supports, solving problems, encouraging everyone involved and ensuring Michael always felt supported. Your work is often unseen, but it makes an enormous difference 👣

This is what happens when everyone works together with one shared vision 🥅

Person centred
Strength based
Trauma informed
Neurodivergent affirming
Collaborative
Intentional

When supports are coordinated rather than isolated, people don’t just receive services……

They build confidence.

They develop skills.

They create meaningful relationships.

They become active members of their community.

They discover possibilities they never imagined.

Michael, today we celebrate YOU 🙌🏽

Your courage
Your resilience
Your hard work
Your willingness to keep showing up even when life has been challenging.

Thank you for reminding us why we do what we do 💡

This is what it means to Make Change Happen 🫶🏽

📢 Your child’s future is not defined by today’s challenges.

A diagnosis, a developmental assessment, or the words “global developmental delay”, do not place a limit on what your child can learn, experience, contribute, or become.

Progress may look different. It may come in small, meaningful steps rather than giant leaps. It may not always follow the milestones society expects. Different does not mean less.

Research continues to show that development remains possible across the lifespan when children are supported within environments that are safe, responsive, relationship focused, and built around their individual strengths.

The brain is capable of change through neuroplasticity, and learning occurs when we honour a person’s interests, communication style, sensory needs, autonomy, and emotional wellbeing.

Every new connection.
Every attempt to communicate.
Every shared smile.
Every moment of trust.
Every skill built through co regulation and meaningful participation.

These are not “small” achievements. They are the foundations of a life filled with belonging, purpose, and possibility.

Children with profound autism and complex support needs often teach us that success cannot be measured by comparison. Success is measured by quality of life, authentic relationships, meaningful participation, increased independence, self determination, and the opportunity to have their voice heard in whatever way they communicate.

As Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners, our role is not to change who a child is.

Our role is to understand them.

To recognise their strengths before their challenges.

To build on what matters to them.

To reduce barriers rather than expecting the child to adapt to environments that were never designed for them.

Most importantly, we walk alongside families with hope grounded in evidence, not false promises.

To every parent who feels exhausted, uncertain, or overwhelmed……

Please don’t underestimate your child’s capacity to grow.

Potential is not measured by IQ.
Potential is not measured by spoken language.
Potential is not measured by someone else’s expectations.

Potential is measured by opportunities, relationships, understanding, and the unwavering belief that every child deserves the chance to thrive.

Keep believing.

Your child is writing their own story, one meaningful step at a time.

At U-Change Consulting, we are passionate about walking alongside children, families, educators, and support teams to create meaningful, person centred Positive Behaviour Support that builds quality of life, strengthens relationships, and celebrates every individual’s unique strengths 🫶🏽

If you are looking for a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner who values compassion, evidence based practice, and truly listening to your child’s voice, we would love to connect with you.

Referrals are welcome across Australia for children, adolescents, and adults with disability and complex support needs.

📢 Introducing the U-CHANGE Positive Behaviour Support Model.

At U-Change Consulting, we believe behaviour is not something to be controlled, it is something to be understood.

That’s why we’ve developed the U-CHANGE PBS Model.

A neuroaffirming, trauma-informed, and rights-based approach to Positive Behaviour Support that places quality of life, dignity, and self-determination at the centre of everything we do.

🫶🏽 U – Understand
Behaviour makes sense when we understand the person.

🫶🏽 C – Connect
Strong relationships create safety, trust, and opportunities for growth.

🫶🏽 H – Honour
We honour identity, neurodiversity, communication differences, culture, and lived experience.

🫶🏽 A – Adapt
When a person is struggling, we first ask how the environment can change to better support them.

🫶🏽 N – Nurture
We build meaningful skills that increase independence, participation, and wellbeing.

🫶🏽 G – Grow
We continuously learn, review, and improve supports based on outcomes that matter.

🫶🏽 E – Empower
Our ultimate goal is greater choice, control, self-advocacy, and quality of life.

The U-CHANGE Model reflects our commitment to moving beyond behaviour management and towards genuine understanding, inclusion, and capacity building.

Success is not measured by compliance.

Success is measured by people living the lives they choose, with the supports they need, in communities where they belong.

Looking for Positive Behaviour Support that focuses on understanding, connection, and quality of life? U-Change Consulting is currently welcoming new PBS referrals. Reach out to our team at [email protected] to learn how we can support positive, meaningful change 🫶🏽

Today, on National Sorry Day, we pause to acknowledge the strength, resilience, and enduring cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We remember the Stolen Generations, the children, families, and communities impacted by past government policies, and the ongoing effects of intergenerational trauma that continue to be felt today.

At U-Change Consulting, we are deeply committed to ongoing reflection, learning, and the important work of decolonising practice within the disability, education, behaviour support, and community sectors. We recognise the importance of listening to and being guided by First Nations voices, knowledge, culture, and lived experience.

We are deeply privileged and appreciative to have Lorraine Blanco (Namok), our First Nations Principal Consultant and Behaviour Support Practitioner, as part of our team. Lorraine’s leadership, cultural knowledge, advocacy, and guidance continue to shape and strengthen our commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed, and neurodivergent-affirming practice.

As a team, we remain committed to walking alongside First Nations peoples with humility, respect, accountability, and genuine partnership.

Today is a day to reflect, to listen, and to continue the journey toward reconciliation together.

🌋 LOOK UNDERNEATH THE BEHAVIOUR 🌋

At U-Change Consulting, we believe behaviour is communication.

What we see on the surface is often only a small part of what a person is experiencing underneath.

Dysregulation, sensory overwhelm, communication frustration, unmet needs, anxiety, trauma, and developing coping skills can all impact behaviour.

Our Positive Behaviour Support team works alongside participants, families, schools, support workers, and care teams to build understanding, strengthen supports, and create meaningful, person-centred strategies that improve quality of life.

We support children, adolescents, and adults with complex disabilities such as:
🫶🏽Autism Spectrum Disorder
🫶🏽ADHD
🫶🏽Co-occurring genetic/medical conditions
🫶🏽Psychosocial disability
🫶🏽Global developmental delay
🫶🏽Complex trauma backgrounds
🫶🏽Anxiety and emotional regulation challenges
🫶🏽PDA profiles and school refusal
🫶🏽Complex communication needs
🫶🏽FASD
🫶🏽Dual diagnoses and co-occurring conditions
🫶🏽Complex paediatric presentations
🫶🏽Epilepsy and neurological conditions

At U-Change Consulting, our PBS approach is:
✔ Neuroaffirming
✔️ Trauma-informed
✔️ Culturally responsive
✔ Compassionate
✔ Evidence-informed
✔ Collaborative
✔ Focused on reducing stress and improving quality of life outcomes for everyone involved

We are currently welcoming referrals for Positive Behaviour Support services as our team is growing. We currently have practitioners in the Gladstone and Brisbane region.

At U-Change Consulting, we believe Positive Behaviour Support is built through connection, trust, and meaningful experiences 🫶🏽

Monday was all about community participation, confidence building, and co-designing proactive strategies with Cooper, who has just turned 16 🎉

Through a strengths-based and neuroaffirming approach, Cooper spent time at the golf course developing:

⛳ Functional communication skills
⛳ Emotional regulation strategies
⛳ Community access confidence
⛳ Social connection and engagement
⛳ Decision-making and independence

For young people like Cooper with complex communication, ADHD, Autism (ASD Level 3), and behaviour support needs, the best outcomes happen when support is individualised, collaborative, and built around what genuinely motivates them.

Golf became more than an activity, it became a space for relationship building, problem solving, movement regulation, confidence, and success in a real-world community setting.

A huge congratulations to Cooper on his perseverance and determination in recently gaining his driver’s licence and commencing driving lessons 🚗👏

This is such a significant milestone and reflects the incredible growth, resilience, and independence he continues to show. We are so proud of the effort and commitment he has put into achieving this goal.

We are incredibly proud of Cooper and the way he continues to engage with new strategies, communicate his needs, and build capacity in ways that are meaningful to him 🫶🏽

This is what Positive Behaviour Support should look like:

🫶🏽 Respectful
🫶🏽 Collaborative
🫶🏽 Innovative
🫶🏽 Capacity-building
🫶🏽 Community-focused
🫶🏽 Person-led

We support people living with a wide range of disabilities and support needs, including:

🫶🏽 Autism and neurodivergence
🫶🏽 Intellectual disability
🫶🏽 Psychosocial disability and mental health challenges
🫶🏽 Physical disability and mobility support needs
🫶🏽 Complex co-occurring medical conditions, behaviours and high-risk situations
🫶🏽 Sensory and communication differences
