ABOUT ROWENA ROBINSON
Born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in poverty by a determined single mother, Rowena Robinson’s life has been shaped by resilience, creativity, and a deep commitment to community. A graduate of Southern Illinois University, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on Human Movement and Community Health. In 1972, Rowena made history as the first Black female gymnast to compete at national level in the United States, becoming a member of a national gold-medal winning team.
After moving to Australia, Rowena dedicated 36 years to teaching PDHPE in Sydney secondary schools, where she inspired generations of young people and coached numerous prize-winning teams in gymnastics, volleyball, athletics, and basketball. Beyond the classroom, she contributed to innovative programs exploring Aboriginal spirituality for Year 9 students at a leading Catholic girls’ school.
Rowena’s creative life is equally rich. She is a studio artist whose paintings have been exhibited and sold across Sydney, an actress who has appeared in stage productions in Sydney, Canberra, and Adelaide, and a writer and writing tutor. She also holds a Diploma of Herbal Medicine and founded the Well Body Herbal Medicine Clinic on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Today, Rowena finds deep fulfilment as a spiritual pastor and mentor, helping others discover their worth, creativity, and joy.
She's an extraordinary woman. Get your tickets, bring your friends, this will be one helluva night:
