It's Speech Pathology Week- 23rd - 29th August, 2026 🗣️

This year's theme is "Communication creates possibility" — to connect, to learn, to grow, to choose, to belong, to participate, to thrive.

Every one of those starts with communication. It's how we ask for what we need, tell someone how we feel, join in, or just be understood by the people around us. And it can look different for everyone — spoken words, AAC, gestures, sign — whatever works.

I love this job because I get a front-row seat to those moments: a kid finding their way to say something that matters, and being heard.

Has your child ever wanted to play soccer but he/she hasn’t felt confident enough or may need additional support to do so?

If you answered yes, then please find the flyer and information regarding the Tuggeranong United Football Club All Abilities Program that will run from October 13th- Dec 15th, 2024 attached .

Tuggeranong United Football Club is excited to be able to run this program for the 2nd year.

Sunday All Abilities (Any kids with any disabilities of any age (ASD, ADHD, blind/ low vision, deaf/hard of hearing, down syndrome, physical disabilities, cerebral palsy, etc) 10am - 11.30am https://membership.mygameday.app/regoform.cgi?formID=88700&programID=71321

🗣This week is Speech Pathology week! 🎉

This year the theme 'Communicating for Life', highlights the role that Speech Pathologists (speechies) play in supporting communication and quality of life across the lifespan.

Over the past 17 years of working as a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP), I have been incredibly lucky to work with both adults and children to support their ability to communicate with others.

Being a speechie is an awesome and incredibly rewarding job and I look forward to continuing to support the children and their families at OTBTS.

Growing up, I loved reading books! I have lots of happy memories going to our local library, getting dressed up and then choosing a special book to buy from the school's book fair during Book Week!

• Literacy development can begin at any time. Even though your baby, or toddler can’t read, they can listen to stories and share books with you.
• During this time your child is learning to be gentle with books, turn the pages, to scan the pages, anticipate what will happen next, point to pictures, learn new words and play games.
• Choose books with large, bright pictures, different textures, flaps, etc. Babies love to look at pictures of other babies.
• Let your child interact with the book by feeling, touching, making noises, playing with sounds whilst looking at the pictures.
• Books are great entertainment for your child and reading can be done anywhere, including the bath!
• It’s important to develop a routine and repertoire of books you use with your child to foster their love of reading and learning.
• Keep reading simple with lots of repetition and have fun!
