🚨 MELANOMA IN CHILDREN? YES, IT CAN HAPPEN.
When we think of melanoma, we often think of adults. But did you know that children can develop melanoma too?
While childhood melanoma is rare, recognising it can be particularly challenging.
Unlike melanoma in adults, childhood melanoma doesn't always look like the typical dark, irregular mole we are taught to watch for.
In children, melanoma can sometimes appear as:
🔎 A pink, red or skin-coloured bump
🔎 A new or unusual growth
🔎 A mole that changes in size, shape or appearance
🔎 A lesion that bleeds or continues to grow
The danger? Assuming that because someone is young, it couldn't possibly be melanoma.
At Skin Cancer Canberra Clinic, we believe that awareness, careful examination and timely assessment are important at every age.
Not every unusual mole is melanoma, but a changing or concerning lesion deserves professional attention.
