🌿 We’ve Moved! 🌿

Did you know Somerset Health has a new home base?

We’ve moved into the wonderful Flow Wellness space, where we’re excited to be sharing the space with our local Chiropractor, Jordan, and Acupuncturist, Holly.

We’re thrilled to be part of this collaborative health and wellbeing environment, which includes wheelchair-accessible facilities and a 24/7-access gym!

Whether you’re coming in for OT, physiotherapy, or one of the other services available at Flow Wellness, we’d love for you to pop in, say hello and meet the Somerset Health & Flow Wellness team! 💙

Come and check out our new space — we look forward to welcoming you!

We spend plenty of time looking after our fishing gear, plantations, boats, speedway cars and 4x4s... but not always ourselves.

If you've spent more time in the bush or out on the reef than looking after your body, this one's for you.

Hi everyone, I'm Tom, and I'm excited to be taking private physiotherapy appointments at Somerset Health.

Over the past couple of years, I've really enjoyed getting to know Carnarvon and the unique lifestyle that comes with living here. I'm certainly no expert on catching fish or growing mangoes, but I hope to become a familiar face that people can trust to help them stay active, recover from injury, and get back to doing what they enjoy.

While many people think of physiotherapy for sore backs, stiff necks and sporting injuries, it can also help with:
• Dizziness and vertigo
• Paediatric physiotherapy, including babies and children
• Respiratory and chest conditions
• Balance and falls prevention
• Rehabilitation after surgery or prolonged hospital admissions
• And, of course, all the usual aches, pains and injuries that come with work, sport and everyday life.

If you're not sure whether physio is right for you, feel free to send me a message—I'm always happy to point you in the right direction.

Your body deserves the same attention as the rest of your gear. 🙂

You'll often hear therapists talk about "safe community access"—but what does that actually mean?

For an Occupational Therapist, safe community access is about helping a person develop the skills, awareness, and confidence to participate safely and independently in their community. This means recognising potential risks, making safe decisions, and knowing what to do in different situations, whether they're walking, riding a bike, catching public transport, or travelling with support.

For some participants, this includes developing road safety awareness, learning how to navigate different environments, and practising strategies to stay safe while getting from one place to another.

Practical, hands-on sessions give participants the opportunity to build confidence in meaningful environments, Sometimes, that even means heading out together for a practice bike ride! 🚲

Did you know that Occupational Therapists (OTs) can support people to develop emotional recognition, emotional regulation, and behaviour management skills?

These skills are essential for everyday life. They can help people better understand their emotions, respond to challenges, build positive relationships, and participate more confidently at home, school, work, and in the community.

While learning these skills might sound a little boring, at Somerset Health we make therapy engaging, meaningful, and fun!

The best part? 💙

When therapy is personalised, people are often having so much fun they don't even realise they're developing lifelong skills in emotional awareness, self-regulation, problem-solving, and resilience.

Living in a very remote community shouldn't mean waiting months for the right assistive technology (AT).

At Somerset Health, our Occupational Therapist (OT) and Physiotherapist understand the unique challenges of accessing customised equipment in remote areas. That's why we're passionate about working alongside local providers, fabricators, organisations, and community members to design and develop practical, personalised assistive technology solutions as quickly as possible.

Whether it's modifying existing equipment or creating something completely unique, our goal is simple: help people get back to doing the things they need and want to do safely, comfortably, and with greater independence.

Through tailored life skills programs, occupational therapists deliver Capacity Building supports that help people with a disability develop the skills needed for employment and study. This includes support to develop positive routines, time management, communication, confidence, and workplace readiness skills.

At Somerset Health, we work alongside participants, families, and support networks to provide personalised, goal-focused supports that align with each individual’s NDIS plan.

Somerset Health recognises that yarning On Country isn’t just a conversation - it’s connection, culture, and community in action. 🌿

For First Nations peoples, yarning is a powerful way to share stories, pass on knowledge, and stay grounded in identity and place.

At Somerset Health, we’re committed to walking alongside community, individuals, and their families through their healthcare journey. We strive to create spaces that are culturally safe, respectful, guided by listening and following the lead of our First Nations peoples.

At Somerset Health, we believe great outcomes start with family-centred care.

We work closely with families and supports to understand what matters most, building therapy around each person’s unique goals, routines, and environment.

From there, we create customised therapy programs and practical resources that can be used in everyday life; at home, school, the clinic or in the community.

Somerset Health understands that therapy works best when it fits into real life.

Choice and control are at the heart of the NDIS but you don’t have to do it alone.

Supported decision making means having the right support to help you make and act on your own decisions. It’s about empowering people with disability to stay in control of their lives, while getting guidance when needed.

At Somerset Health, we’re committed to working alongside you; listening, supporting, and respecting your choices every step of the way.

Your goals, your voice, and your decisions matter to us.

At Somerset Health, we love collaborating with other local providers to achieve the best outcomes for our clients. When it comes to mobility aids and custom equipment, new or old, it’s often all hands on deck!

Lucky we’ve got some great helpers to lend a hand...or ear.

Thank you Max from .com.au and our red cloud Kelpie, Indie, for keeping us on track with some of our new equipment and mobility aids 🐾
