Our Foundation is proud to partner with The Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ) to support travel grants for medical professionals working in the acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) space.
 
These grants help foster collaboration and knowledge sharing to expand vital research into less toxic, more effective treatment options for ALL. Together, we’re working towards a future where adolescents and young adults affected by ALL have not only a greater chance of survival, but the opportunity to truly thrive beyond treatment.
 
Because surviving cancer is just the beginning and allows HOPE to take flight.

As the evening drew to a close, guests were treated to an electric performance by the legendary Hoodoo Gurus. Celebrating their 45th year as one of Australia’s most iconic bands, they brought incredible energy, nostalgia and excitement to the event, creating a fitting finale to a truly special night.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to every donor, supporter, guest and volunteer, as well as the many businesses and individuals who generously contributed their time, products and expertise.

Together, your support helped create an unforgettable evening that not only celebrated the launch of the Zoie Moore Leukaemia Research Foundation but also strengthened our shared commitment to advancing research and improving outcomes for young people. Hope takes flight. At the recent launch dinner for our Foundation, an incredible $84,000 was raised to support medical students investigating alternative treatment options for young people and adolescents affected by leukaemia.

The Foundation extends its sincere thanks to MC Ross Greenwood, whose professionalism, energy and generosity helped make the evening such a successful and inspiring event.

In partnership with the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand, the funds raised will be directed towards travel grants that enable emerging researchers to expand their knowledge, collaborate with leading experts and pursue innovative approaches to treatment.

The Foundation looks forward to sharing updates as this important work progresses and the impact of these contributions begins to take shape.

Ruby D’Rozario is 23 years of age and an Ambassador for our Foundation. She is also a young person living with the consequences of the treatment she received when she was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 14-years-old and relapsed at 16-years-old.

In Ruby’s words,  I was no longer a regular 14-year-old girl. I was a cancer patient.
My hair began falling out.
Doctors spoke a language I didn’t understand.
The medications entering my body were so toxic that nurses wore gowns, gloves and masks just to administer them.
My new reality became hospital rooms, medication, chemotherapy, and observations……
 
What most of us don’t see are the hidden scars of those who have experienced what Ruby has. The time in hospital, the life-threatening complications, the impact on family and friends. What we hear and celebrate are the survival rates but we don’t often hear about are the damage and consequences of treatment that survivors now need to endure - the cost of survival.
In Ruby’s words: Survival matters. Of course it does. But quality of life after treatment matters too.
 
Our young people deserve better and that is why our Foundation has been established. Every dollar given to this Foundation helps push research forward. And research is what gives families hope that the next young person diagnosed may have better options than people like Ruby and Zoie did.

At our recent Launch Dinner, Co-Founder and Director Nicolle Trivett-Moore shared Zoie’s journey, from her diagnosis through to her passing in 2022.

For many attendees, it was a powerful reminder of how the Moore family, alongside friends and supporters, stood by Zoie as she fought for the same opportunities every young person deserves. For others, it provided important insight into Zoie’s story, the inspiration behind the Foundation, and why this work is so vital.

We encourage you to take a moment to watch Zoie’s story and gain a deeper understanding of why research into less invasive treatment options for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia is so important.

“It takes a village to raise a child”—and it also takes strong partnerships to improve outcomes for children and young people facing acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. In a remarkably short time, our Foundation has helped make meaningful progress by partnering with HSANZ (Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand) to establish travel grants that support collaboration, professional development, and education. These grants provide eligible applicants with valuable opportunities to connect, share knowledge, and work together towards developing less toxic treatment options for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Together, we are investing in research, innovation, and better outcomes for the next generation.

Our Foundation was very fortunate to have Ross Greenwood, an Australian print and television journalist and radio presenter reporting on business and finance, as our Master of Ceremonies and Auctioneer at the recent launch dinner event. Ross facilitated the evening which took us from Zoie’s Journey to hearing first-hand the impact of the treatment for leukaemia on young people when our Ambassador, Ruby D’Rozario shared her own journey, challenges and triumphs. The evening raised a total of $84k largely due to Ross’s high-energy and persuasive personality during the live auction. We are very grateful for Ross’s generosity with his time and expertise and would like to recognise the impact he has made to the future of the Foundation and its vision.
