โ„๏ธ Winter is here... and with the cooler weather comes a few common foot complaints! We asked our Podiatrist, Rebecca, what she sees most often in the clinic during winter ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Here are the top 5 foot issues that tend to show up this time of year:
1. Dry skin & cracked heels โ€“ Hot showers, less water intake, and skipping the moisturiser can leave your feet feeling the effects.
2. Chillblains โ€“ Often caused by warming cold feet too quickly, such as jumping into a hot shower after being out in the cold.
3. Ingrown toenails โ€“ Winter footwear can be tighter and more restrictive, increasing pressure on the nails.
4.Tinea between the toes โ€“ Damp feet, slippers, UGG boots, and not drying properly between the toes can create the perfect environment for fungal infections.
5. Stiff feet & calves โ€“ Reduced activity levels and cold weather can aggravate arthritis and contribute to muscle tightness.

If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, don't put up with sore or uncomfortable feet this winter. Contact our team and book an appointment with Rebecca

๐Ÿ‰ The team have been showing their colours today and putting in their guesses for tonightโ€™s game ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‰

Rugby places repeated high intensity demands on the body through sprinting, tackling, twisting, scrums, rucks, and contact sequences. Often, injuries build over time from repeated smaller impacts rather than one big hit.

Exercise physiologists can help improve conditioning, build tolerance to repeated loading, and optimise recovery for players.

Who are you backing tonight?

โšฝ๏ธ FACT: Soccer has one of the highest rates of lower limb injuries
Most common injuries include knee injuries (ACL/PCL), hamstring and groin strains, shin splints and Achilles tendon issues ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Did you know? ๐Ÿค”
Most injuries occur in the 2nd half of the match when fatigue sets in ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ, increasing the demand on muscles and joints

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Injury Prevention Tip:
Key components of a soccer warm up include a general light jog ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ followed by more specific mobility and dynamic movements. This should include the major muscle groups of your lower limbs: glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings and calves ๐Ÿฆต
