Healing begins with small daily choices. Some are looking for the one supplement, one exercise or one treatment that will transform their eye health overnight. But true healing usually happens differently. It happens through the small choices we make every day.

* Better nutrition
* More time outdoors
* Better visual habits
* Less device use
* More exercise
* Less stress

These simple habits don't just affect your general health—they affect your eyes too. Small changes may seem insignificant in the moment, but they compound over weeks, months and years. The daily walk. The earlier bedtime. The healthier meal. The time spent outdoors in natural light. These habits create the foundation upon which better health and better vision can grow.

Dr. Sam Berne is a U.S. holistic optometrist who believes that many vision issues are not just eye problems but are closely connected to the brain, body and nervous system. He suggests that focusing only on the eyes — with stronger glasses and even exercises or supplements — may miss the deeper issue of how the visual system is functioning as a whole.

Vision is a whole-body process involving the eyes, brain, posture, balance, movement and nervous system regulation. Stress and nervous system dysregulation may contribute to symptoms such as blurry vision, dizziness, eye strain, tunnel vision, poor focus, headaches, light sensitivity, fatigue and difficulty processing busy environments.

When the nervous system is stuck in “fight-or-flight,” (stress and trauma) the eyes can become over-focused, tense and poorly coordinated. This may affect how the brain combines information from both eyes.

His approach combines vision therapy, breathing, body awareness, relaxation, movement and nervous-system regulation to help improve visual comfort and perception.

We're really interested in tools that can help eye health like red light therapy (we have Arunalight and Eyepower red light glasses) and are now exploring micro-current therapy for vision.

Micro-current uses tiny electrical currents similar to the body’s own natural electrical signals. It may help:

• Stimulate retinal and optic nerve function
• Improve circulation
• Support cellular repair
• Enhance communication between cells
• Activate healing pathways within the visual system

Some practitioners are seeing promising improvements in visual function, eye strain and retinal health when combined with nutrition and lifestyle medicine.

The future of eye care may not only involve stronger glasses or invasive procedures — but therapies that help restore function, energy and healing from within. Our eyes are living, energy-producing organs… and supporting that energy may be one of the keys to preserving vision naturally.

Can nutrition help dry eyes?

A 2026 systematic review looked at vitamin supplementation in dry eye disease and found growing evidence that targeted nutrients may help support tear film stability and reduce symptoms.

Inflammation, dehydration, poor blinking habits, overuse of digital devices, environmental stress and nutritional imbalance can all affect dry eyes.

The authors analysed 13 clinical studies, looking at oral supplementation with:

* Vitamin D (the most studied and most promising)
* Vitamin A
* Vitamin B1 and B12

Some studies reported improvements in:
* tear production
* tear film stability
* ocular surface health
* dry eye symptoms

The review highlights growing interest in the connection between
nutrition, inflammation, oxidative stress, immune function
and ocular surface health. Dry eyes may not just be a local eye problem, but can also reflect broader systemic and lifestyle factors.

Introduction Vitamins are micronutrients with a wide range of anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, regulatory and antioxidant properties. Several studies have shown that vitamins play a crucial role in the homoeostasis of the ocular surface. Deficiency of certain vitamins might be associated with th...

New research highlights a fascinating link between vitamin A, thyroid hormones and clear vision. This new article by the popular Dr Mercola explains how these two factors work together during eye development to form the part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed sight — determining how well we see from birth.

It also reinforces something we often talk about in natural eye care: nutrition matters. Key nutrients like vitamin A, along with antioxidants such as lutein and zeaxanthin, help protect the retina and support long-term visual health.

Vitamin A and thyroid hormone work together during eye development to build the tiny region of your retina responsible for your sharpest vision.

It's not just about what you should eat but also what you should avoid. Both healthy nutrient intake and the avoidance of harmful foods are important for maintaining healthy eyes.

A poor diet high in sugar, processed foods and unhealthy fats can increase inflammation, impair circulation and raise the risk of eye conditions like macular degeneration, cataract and dry eye syndrome.

Avoid vision problems by cutting out harmful foods! Discover the worst foods for eye health and learn what to eat instead for sharper, healthier eyesight.
