π± Understanding Developmental Delay π±
Every child grows and learns at their own pace β but sometimes, a child may take longer than expected to reach important milestones. This is known as developmental delay, and understanding it early can make a big difference. π
What is developmental delay?
Developmental delay happens when a child hasn't reached expected milestones in one or more areas, such as:
πΉ Motor skills β crawling, walking, coordination
πΉ Speech & language β talking, understanding words
πΉ Cognitive development β thinking, problem-solving, learning
πΉ Social & emotional skills β interacting, playing, and connecting with others
Why early support matters:
β
Early intervention makes the most of critical developmental windows
β
Helps children build confidence and everyday life skills
β
Supports communication, play, and social connection
β
Gives families the tools and guidance to support their child's growth
At Blue Umbrella Disability Service, we work closely with children and families across Craigieburn and the Hume region to create individualised, person-centred support plans. Whether it's building communication skills, developing motor coordination, or simply helping a child feel confident in their own abilities β we're here to support every step of the journey. π€
