Bringing aged care back to Cunnamulla is a community effort, and it has been your passion and determination that has carried this journey so far.

Our elders deserve to stay in the town they love, close to family, friends and everything familiar. Your support is necessary for our success, and we couldn’t do this without you.

We need your support. Cunnamulla needs aged care services, and now is the time to make our voices heard. 📢💙

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is hosting an Aged Care Community Forum right here in Cunnamulla, and this is our community's chance to stand together and speak up. Our elders deserve to age in the town they call home, close to family, friends and everything familiar, not forced to move hours away just to access the care they need.

If you've felt the impact of limited aged care access in our region, whether personally, through a loved one, or in the wider community, this forum is where that story needs to be told. The more of us who turn up and speak up, the stronger our message.

The veggie garden at Yapunyah Lodge is really coming along! 🍅🌱

There's a lot of love that goes into it, digging, planting, watering and watching it all grow, and it shows in every corner of the patch. There's something genuinely satisfying about growing your own, whether it's picking something fresh to add to a meal or just enjoying the process of getting hands in the dirt.

It's a lovely reminder of the simple things, patience, routine and a real sense of pride in watching something you've nurtured come to life.

We can't wait to see what's ready to harvest next!

This is an update for the community as we have been receiving many enquiries regarding resident intake at Yapunyah Lodge.

Recently, Brett and Dan attended a meeting in Canberra with Sam Rae, Minister for Aged Care and Seniors of Australia, to discuss moving the project toward intake as soon as possible.

Whilst the Aged Care Department and Sam Rae's Office have been very supportive of the project and understand the desperate need for Residential Aged Care in remote Queensland, we must follow certain processes. These processes ensure all Residential Aged Care services are delivered safely, consistently and to the highest standard of care, in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, the Aged Care Quality Standards and each future resident’s individual needs, preferences and rights.

Gwandalan Support Services understands the desperate need for Aged Care in Cunnamulla, and we recognise that every day that passes, people are going without this crucial service.

We do want to apologise to the community for not providing an update sooner, and we appreciate everyone's patience and support throughout what has turned out to be a very long process.

We are in the final stages and very close to starting residential intake; however, we still cannot provide an exact date as we are awaiting a visit from the Department of Aged Care to consult with the community regarding the need for these services. More details regarding this visit are forthcoming. Please note that Gwandalan Support Services is not organising this visit; it is a requirement of the Department of Aged Care and will be organised by them.

There's something special happening in the gardens at Yapunyah Lodge. 🌿🌸

Whether it's pottering about with a watering can, getting hands dirty in the dirt, or simply sitting back and enjoying the colour and calm of it all, the garden has become a real hub of quiet joy for our residents. There's a lot of pride that goes into keeping it looking this good, and it shows.

Gardening has a wonderful way of grounding us, it's routine, it's purposeful, and there's nothing quite like watching something you've cared for come into bloom. For our residents, it's also a lovely reason to get outdoors, feel the sun and enjoy a change of scenery right on the doorstep.

We reckon Yapunyah's gardens are looking better than ever.
