You may have seen discussion about NDIS “sector stability” and recent budget submissions.

We’ve put together a plain-English breakdown of what this actually means, with a focus on how it affects services and participants in the Northern Territory.

This isn’t about politics, it’s about understanding how decisions can affect supports on the ground.

When groups talk about stabilising the disability services sector, they’re usually referring to things like:

• Providers being able to keep experienced staff
• Services remaining available in regional and remote areas
• Less disruption for participants
• Quality supports being sustainable long term

These conversations can feel abstract, but they have real impacts on people’s everyday lives.

Sector organisations are raising concerns about stability and quality in disability supports ahead of the 2026–27 Budget.

These discussions matter because they affect real people and services on the ground.

𝗡𝗗𝗦 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀: We've lodged our priorities for the 2026-27 Federal Budget - and are urging the Australian Government to take decisive action to stabilise the disability services market and safeguard quality supports for people with disability.✊

Important reminder for NDIS workers in the NT: the first Worker Screening Clearances start expiring from January 2026.

Renewals can be submitted up to 3 months before expiry to avoid any disruption to work.

The first ever issued NDIS Worker Screening Clearances will start expiring in January 2026. 📅

If your clearance expires before your renewal is processed, you may not be able to work in NDIS risk-assessed roles, so make sure you renew on time. 🚨

What do you need to know❓
You’ll get an email reminder that your clearance is expiring soon from the worker screening unit in the state or territory where you first applied.

You can apply to renew your clearance up to 3 months before the expiry date.

What if you live in the Northern Territory now❓
You can submit your renewal through SAFE NT, no matter where your original clearance was issued.

Changed your email in the last five years❓
Update your details with the worker screening unit where you first applied - this is where renewal reminders and important updates will be sent.

If your original application was in the NT, call SAFE NT on 1800 723 368 to update your contact information.
