Birth preparation isn't just about your hospital bag, birth preferences, or nursery setup.

Your pelvic floor undergoes significant change throughout pregnancy and plays a major role during labour, delivery, and postpartum recovery.

Preparing for birth means understanding how your pelvic floor functions, learning to relax and coordinate these muscles, managing pressure effectively, and building confidence in your body's ability to adapt.

Every woman is different, which is why a prenatal pelvic floor assessment can be so valuable.

Your pelvic floor doesn’t just need to be strong.

It needs to know when to switch off.

This is the thing most women are never told — and it changes everything about how we approach pelvic floor training.

We live in a world that tells women to squeeze. Squeeze more, squeeze harder, do more Kegels and while strengthening absolutely has its place, a pelvic floor that can only contract — but can’t fully release — is a pelvic floor that isn’t functioning properly.

Think about it this way. You wouldn’t train your bicep by holding it in a permanent curl. The muscle needs to contract AND relax to work well. Your pelvic floor is exactly the same.

A pelvic floor that is too tight can cause:
→ Leaking (yes, even from a hypertonic floor)
→ Urgency and frequency
→ Pain during s*x
→ Pelvic pressure and heaviness
→ Difficulty fully emptying your bladder or bowel

Sound familiar? These are the same symptoms that are usually blamed on a weak pelvic floor. Which is why so many women spend months doing kegels and seeing no improvement or even getting worse.

This is exactly why an assessment matters.

Without knowing whether your pelvic floor is too weak, too tight, or struggling with coordination — you are essentially guessing and guessing with your pelvic floor rehabilitation costs you time, energy and results.

Strong when it needs to be. Relaxed when it doesn’t. That’s a pelvic floor that actually works.

Happy Mothers Day 🩷

To the mum who was up three times last night and is already on her second coffee before 8am.

To the mum whose body still doesn't feel like hers — months or years after her baby arrived.

To the mum who smiled through the flowers and the breakfast in bed while quietly carrying something nobody else can see.

To the mum who is doing an extraordinary job, every single day, without a manual, without enough sleep, and very often without enough credit.

What you do is not small.

Growing a person, going through birth, however that looked for you, healing while keeping another human alive, and showing up again the next day, and the day after that. That is not ordinary. That is one of the most remarkable things a human being can do.

I see you. The version of you that nobody posts about — the tired one, the uncertain one, the one who wonders if she's doing it right. That version deserves just as much celebration today as the highlight reel.

To every mother reading this — Happy Mother's Day. You are doing better than you think 🩷

Learning to use and release your pelvic floor, understanding how to breathe through labour, addressing symptoms that are already present — these aren’t extras. They’re foundations.

Everyone tells you to enjoy it. Nobody tells you what to actually do with your body.

These are the things we hear most from pregnant women. Real, specific experiences that don’t make it onto the highlight reel.

If any of these landed — this one’s for you.

Pain during s*x after having a baby is one of the most common, yet under-discussed postnatal experiences.

Whether you’ve had a vaginal birth or a c-section, whether it started immediately or months later, this is something pelvic floor physio can directly treat.

You don’t have to push through. You don’t have to avoid intimacy indefinitely. You deserve support.
