To some, art is a creative space where ideas flow freely. To others, it might not feel like their thing at all, and that’s okay too. But for many people, art can also be a place to slow down, feel calm, and simply switch off from the busyness of everyday life.

On this day, our participant shared that they were craving a little more slowness in their life. We thought, what’s a better way to pause, sit still, and be present than through art? So that’s exactly what we did.

Together, we explored poetry, and the benefits were incredible. It wasn’t about being an artist or creating something perfect. It wasn’t about talent or getting it “right.” It was about giving our participant the opportunity to step into a safe, calming space where they could be present, process their thoughts, and slow down.

Creative activities like art can help quiet the mind by gently shifting our focus to the present moment. They encourage mindfulness, reduce stress, provide an outlet for emotions, and can give our brains a break from the constant rush of everyday life.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or like life is moving a little too fast, consider picking up a paintbrush, pen, or pencil. You don’t need to create a masterpiece, sometimes the simple act of creating is enough to help you breathe, reset, and reconnect with yourself 🌸🦋💘

What a week we’ve had at You Choose Support Services 🌸

Like many people at the moment, we’ve had staff and participants knocked down by the colds that seem to be doing the rounds. But for those still standing, we’ve done our best to make the most of the week.

The week has included plenty of cooking, food shopping, beach visits, café trips, community access, community participation, daily living supports, and lots of chats along the way. We’ve also spent a fair bit of time trying to work out the new technology on the shopping trolleys, which has definitely been entertaining at times! 😂

As always, there have been problems to solve, challenges to navigate, and plenty happening behind the scenes. No two days are ever the same, and that’s what makes this job so rewarding.

There’s always a lot going on here at You Choose Support Services, and we wouldn’t have it any other way ❣️

A little trip down memory lane. 💙

When we first met Maddi, she had already overcome one substance but was still fighting another battle. Even then, you could see the determination in her. She wanted more for herself, and she was willing to do the hard work to get there.

Today, we are proud beyond words to celebrate an incredible milestone — 8 months and 28 days sober.

Recovery is never a straight line. It takes courage, resilience, commitment, and the willingness to keep showing up every day, even when it’s difficult. Maddi has done exactly that.

Over the past months, we’ve had the privilege of walking alongside her as she rebuilt confidence, created new opportunities, and embraced experiences she once only dreamed about. From spending time together in the kitchen cooking meals, to supporting her through each new chapter, to watching her prepare for yet another exciting travel adventure, it has been amazing to witness her growth.

Maddi has already travelled the some of the world since getting sober, and seeing her continue to chase new experiences with a clear mind, a strong spirit, and a positive outlook is something truly special.

We couldn’t be prouder of everything she has achieved, and we are so grateful to have been part of her journey. Her determination, strength, and willingness to keep moving forward continue to inspire those around her.

Congratulations, Maddi. This milestone represents so much more than a number. It represents courage, hope, growth, and the incredible life you are building for yourself.

Here’s to celebrating how far you’ve come and all the amazing adventures still to come. ❤️

Every day is different, every participant is unique, and every moment is an opportunity to build confidence, independence and connection.

That’s what makes support work so rewarding.

No two participants have the same goals, interests or support needs, which means no two days ever look the same. Whether we’re exploring the community, developing life skills, working towards personal goals, or simply sharing a laugh, each interaction is meaningful and tailored to the individual.

Here are just some of the fun, memorable and empowering moments we’ve shared with our participants at You Choose Support Services.

If what you see resonates with you and you’re looking for supports that are person-centred, engaging and focused on helping you live life your way, we’d love to hear from you 📧 [email protected] ❣️

Today is Thank a First Responder Day ❤️

Today, we take a moment to recognise and thank the incredible first responders who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. From paramedics, firefighters and police officers to SES volunteers and emergency dispatchers, these individuals show courage, compassion and dedication every day.

First responders are often there for people on some of the hardest days of their lives. They witness trauma, respond to emergencies, and face situations that can have lasting impacts on their own wellbeing. Despite these challenges, they continue to show up, support others, and serve their communities with professionalism and care.

We also acknowledge the families who stand beside them, offering unwavering support through the unique challenges that come with this important work. Their strength, understanding and sacrifice are an essential part of the support system behind every first responder.

Thank you to all first responders and their families for the difference you make in the lives of so many. Your commitment, resilience and dedication do not go unnoticed.

💛 Infant Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 💛

This week we’re recognising Infant Mental Health Awareness Week and the important theme of Attunement.

Attunement is our ability to tune in, notice, understand and respond to a baby’s emotional needs in a sensitive and meaningful way. Through these early connections, babies learn that they are safe, loved and understood.

When parents, carers and professionals are emotionally attuned to a baby, they help build strong foundations for emotional regulation, secure relationships and positive mental health throughout life.

At the heart of our work is supporting families to strengthen these connections and create nurturing, responsive relationships where babies can thrive.

This week, we encourage everyone to learn more about attunement and the powerful role it plays in a child’s development. Every interaction matters, and every connection helps shape a baby’s future.

💛 Long Weekend Notice 💛

We’ll be closing this afternoon and will return on Tuesday, 9th June.

You deserve it. We deserve it. Everyone deserves it.

This year has been busier than ever, but it’s also been our best year yet. We’re incredibly grateful for the trust, support, and connections we’ve built along the way.

As much as we love what we do, long weekends serve as an important reminder to slow down, switch off, and spend quality time with the people who matter most.

Whether you’re spending time with family, catching up with friends, exploring somewhere new, or simply taking a moment to rest, we hope you embrace the opportunity to be present and enjoy the little things.

Life moves quickly, and sometimes the most productive thing we can do is pause and appreciate where we are.

Have a safe and relaxing long weekend, and we’ll see you back on Tuesday. ✨

🌱 Capacity Building Through Community Participation

Growth doesn’t always happen in big moments. Often, it starts with a conversation, attending a local event, trying something new, or feeling connected to your community.

Community participation helps build confidence, independence, social skills, and a sense of belonging. By engaging in meaningful activities, people can develop new strengths, form relationships, and create opportunities that support their goals and wellbeing.

Everyone deserves the chance to be part of their community in a way that feels safe, enjoyable, and empowering.

At You Choose Support, we believe that meaningful participation creates meaningful change. 💛

June is Men’s Mental Health Month 💙

Men are often taught to stay strong, push through, and keep their struggles to themselves. But strength isn’t about suffering in silence — it’s about knowing when to reach out, speak up, and ask for support.

As we enter June, let’s take a moment to check in with the men in our lives. A simple conversation, a text, or asking “How are you really doing?” can make a bigger difference than you might realise.

Mental health affects everyone, and no one should have to face their challenges alone.

This month, let’s break the stigma, encourage open conversations, and remind men that it’s okay to not be okay.

You don’t have to carry it all by yourself. 💙
