Forever in our hearts, James ๐ค
Some people come into our lives and leave a mark that can never be erased. James was one of those beautiful people.
We had the absolute privilege of knowing, loving and supporting James, and of having him call one of our homes his home.
But it was never just four walls.
It was a home filled with genuine care, connection, laughter and love.
And we donโt mean the buzzword kind of care.
We mean the genuine, we give a s**t kind.
The kind where you truly know someone. Where you know what makes them smile, what brings them comfort, what makes them laugh, what they love and what makes an ordinary day a good one.
We all knew James.
We knew his infectious smile. His love for his housemates. His love of music. His love for anything chocolate especially Maltesers and that a zero alcohol Great Northern was something he would very rarely turn down.
We knew his personality, his little quirks and the things that brought him joy.
We all knew the little things that made James, James.
And thatโs what turning up, not just showing up, is all about.
Itโs seeing the person, not the diagnosis. Knowing them. Valuing them. Learning the things that matter to them and their family. Being present through the good days and the incredibly hard ones, and genuinely giving a s**t about the person standing in front of you.
And somewhere along the way, everyone fell in love with him.
His workers, our staff, his housemates, our clients and their families James had a way of finding a place in peopleโs hearts.
He was a husband.
A Brother
A father.
A grandfather and a much-loved Pop.
A friend.
A housemate.
A beautiful soul with an unforgettable smile.
And a very loved member of our Pure Living family.
Dementia is an incredibly cruel disease, and this beautiful man deserved so much better than the hand he was dealt.
But dementia never defined James.
James was so much more than his diagnosis.
He was a man with a family who adored him, a lifetime of memories, a personality all his own and an incredible ability to bring warmth to the people around him.
Being able to provide James with the care, love and support he needed was an absolute honour and privilege.
To Jamesโ family, thank you for trusting us throughout that process and allowing us to walk alongside you. We will forever be grateful for the trust you placed in us, but equally grateful for the love, support and strength that you continued to turn up with.
We were all part of Jamesโ team, and through everything, there was always one person at the centre of it James.
His passing has left an enormous hole in our home and in the hearts of so many people who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
The house may feel a little quieter without him, but the memories, the music, the laughter, the Maltesers, the Great Northern zeros and, most of all, that infectious smile will remain with us.
Because people like James donโt simply leave.
They leave pieces of themselves in the people who were lucky enough to know them.
Forever missed. Never forgotten. Forever part of our story. ๐ค
