From 19 May 2025, the NDIS will start rolling out funding periods to help participants manage their budgets more effectively. Instead of receiving all your funding at once, it will now be made available in smaller blocks – typically every 3 months.

What does this mean for you?
✔️ Helps your funding last the full length of your plan
✔️ Reduces the risk of overspending early
✔️ Gives you better visibility of your spending through the NDIS portal and app
✔️ Unused funds will roll over to the next period (within the same plan)

💬 Important: These changes won’t affect you until you receive a new or reassessed plan, and only after a conversation with the NDIA about your needs.

⚠️ Remember:

You can only access the funds released in each period

Spending funds on non-NDIS supports may require repayment

New rules now define what the NDIS can and cannot fund

As of October 2024, NDIS participants can only purchase supports listed on the NDIS Support List. This change helps ensure funding is used correctly, and participants get the most out of their plans. 🙌

✅ Every purchase is from the approved list of supports
✅ Funding is spent in line with the participant’s plan
✅ Flexible supports are used correctly within the right categories

⚠️ Remember: If funding runs out early, it can’t be topped up. That’s why it’s more important than ever to plan and track your supports carefully.

📢 NDIS Management of Funding Rule Amendment 📢

Support Coordination Australia is committed to keeping you informed about the latest NDIS changes. We’re working alongside state and territory governments to implement new Management of Funding Rules under the NDIS Act 2013 (Sections 44(3), 74(6), and 47).

🔹 What does this mean for participants?
NDIS participants can request their plan to be managed by a specific person or in a particular way—this is called a plan management request. The NDIA must approve this request unless there’s a valid reason under the NDIS Act or rules.

The new rules:
✅ Clarify how the NDIA assesses potential risks when approving plan management requests.
✅ Improve transparency and consistency in decision-making.
✅ Bring all plan management rules together for easier understanding.

📢 NDIS Update: Variation & Reassessment Rules

NDIS participants can now request plan changes (variations or reassessments) at any time!

✅ Variations: Adjustments to your existing plan without replacing it.
✅ Reassessments: A brand-new plan with a new end date.

The NDIA can also make changes if they meet NDIS Act rules.

🚴‍♀️ Disability-Specific Bicycles and NDIS Funding 🚴‍♂️

Did you know the NDIS can fund bicycles or tricycles, including electric ones, if they’re tailored to meet a participant’s disability-related needs? Here’s how it works:

✅ What’s Funded:

Bicycles or tricycles with disability-specific features or designs.
Modifications or adaptations to standard bikes to meet disability needs.

✅ What’s Not Funded:

The original bike or trike – this must be purchased by the participant or their family.
Standard, unmodified bicycles, tricycles, or electric bicycles.
These supports are considered assistive products for recreation if they meet the 'reasonable and necessary' criteria under the NDIS.

📢 Important Reminder for NDIS Participants: Update Your myGov Sign-In Options

Support Coordination Australia is committed to helping our clients protect their personal data and NDIS plans. As part of ongoing efforts to improve digital security, the NDIS is linking its systems to myGov accounts for identity confirmation.

🚨 Key Update:
Starting 18 October 2024, the option to sign in using secret questions and answers will no longer be available. To continue accessing the NDIS app and portal, you need to switch to a stronger sign-in option before this date.

🔑 What You Need to Do:
✅ Log in to your myGov account and update your sign-in settings
✅ Choose a secure alternative like a passkey or SMS code

Failure to update your sign-in option by 18 October 2024 will block access to your NDIS app and portal until you make this change.
