Oliver’s Birth Story ✨
Shared with permission from one of our hypnobirthing mums 🤍
At 5pm on Sunday, right on 40 weeks, her birth story began quietly. She went to the toilet and felt a small “pop,” brushing it off at first. In the shower, she noticed a little fluid and wondered if her waters had begun to release.
By 4am, she woke to wet underwear, and again at 6:30am. After calling maternity, she and her partner headed into the hospital, where monitoring showed irregular surges and a happy baby on the CTG. Although admission was offered, she chose to return home to allow labour to start, even going for a walk around the zoo to encourage things along.
By 4pm, with little change, they returned to hospital where she was admitted.
That evening, the induction process began. After two doses to soften her cervix, her waters fully released at 6am, followed by her mucous plug. Surges started but were still irregular, so they moved into the birth suite and created a calm, supportive environment; dim lights, music playing, and a diffuser to set the tone.
By mid-morning the following day, surges intensified with the hormone drip. She used gas for pain relief, breathing through each wave. Around midday, feeling strong pressure, she agreed to a cervical check only to find she was 4cm. Feeling defeated, she began begging for an epidural.
Her partner gently reminded her that this wasn’t what she had planned and encouraged her through it, offering reassurance and strength when she needed it most. It became a powerful reminder of how much a support person can shape the birth experience.
Instead, she chose pethidine, which allowed her to deeply rest between surges for a couple of hours.
She stayed focused, repeating her mantra: “floppy f***y, floppy face.”
Not long after, everything shifted. She felt the urge to push and a check revealed she was already 8cm. As she got up to move, her body began involuntarily bearing down.
Within minutes, she was fully dilated.
Just 6 minutes later, her beautiful baby boy, Oliver, was born into her arms at 40+2... Continued in comments
