147 steps per minute--That was my cadence.
Fixed my Cadence // Fixed my Knee
And honestly I had no idea that insidious number had that big of an impact on my knee pain.
Turns out there's legit research behind this. Bradley Neal showed that bumping cadence by just 10% reduces the stress through your patellofemoral joint by 14 to 19 percent.
Per stride. Every single step.
And the cool thing — this isn't just a rehab thing.
Performance increases with a better cadence means better turnover, less pounding, cleaner mechanics when you're fatigued. It works for anyone trying to run better.
I'm not there yet. But now that I actually understand what I'm working toward — I feel like I've got something real to build from.
That feels good.
