Hematology appointment today to follow up on the achey pain in Riley’s collarbone. Bloods, stats and physical exam all were positive so nothing jumping out but they have ordered a CT scan to get a thorough look at his collarbone in and under, as well as chest to see what might be causing the pain. Scan has been booked in for Tuesday afternoon and If there are any concerns, they will call us back before his next regular appointment in June. Lung testing is upcoming and they are also testing for diabetes due to his reactions to steroids during chemo, part of the “survivorship process”.
Riley did joke about seeing if a hair transplant was deductible on Medicare, and Doc said he might need a trip to Turkey for that one. Until it returns, whacky hairstyles are necessary! 😆
The one thing I was worried about after moving to Tassie, was getting another Hematology Team as good as the one we had in Toowoomba. It seems we fell on blessed ground as we are so far very happy at their diligence and thoroughness. For that I’m grateful.
It’s a scary time post chemo as the lingering doubts are always there, however, Riley is in great spirits so we remain positive. Have a great weekend all x.

Thought we’d do an update. Riley has been experiencing pain in his right collarbone which is the same his cancer was present in. We’ve had blood tests done and all seems well with them. Some low levels on his lymphocytes and white blood cells but they weren’t too bad. After speaking with his Hematology team in Launceston, they have booked him in for an appointment next Friday rather than waiting for his next appointment in a couple of months.
Let’s keep fingers crossed all is ok.
Even though the Remission word is used post chemo, it’s all too easy to think the worst and plunge back into worry mode, we are told that’s a normal response. However, we are thinking positive thoughts.
We will update afterwards. 🙏🏻

Hi all, today we had Riley’s regular three monthly oncology appt. We were expecting the results of his echocardiogram mapping but unfortunately they had not come through from the clinic. So the Hematologist was chasing that up and will contact us if there’s any issues. All blood tests seemed good and they did a wide range of extra bloods to cover bases. Only low reading was his lymphocytes which they will follow up on at the next 3 month visit.
His weight is slowly returning and he has hit 70kg which is nice and healthy. A far improvement from 46kg at his lowest.
He is classed as “in remission” and will remain as such until the 5 year mark, so long as there are no relapses, that is when they will classify as “cured”.
In the near future he will have a lung capacity test and down the track a little he will start yearly ultrasounds.
So for today, it was great news and we couldn’t be happier. 💚

Echocardiogram completed yesterday. Results mid March. Fingers crossed nothing serious to report. 🤞🏻

On this day 12 months ago, Riley was given his cancer diagnosis. It was a day that turned our lives upside down. It was a day of shock, uncertainty of what was ahead, questions after questions, fear and helplessness for him, for us and his siblings.
12 months later we have discovered how strong Riley can be, how courageous he is and how proud of him we are. We are grateful for his strength and resilience especially through the most difficult and soul destroying moments.
Tomorrow is his post-chemo echocardiogram to see if there is any damage to his heart after treatment, results will be at his next hematology appointment in about a month.
Today we are grateful he is a warrior and grateful for the medical support he received and is receiving. 🙏🏻

Riley had his first 3 monthly Hematologist appointment since finishing chemo today, also his first here in Tassie.
We had a recap with his new Dr of his diagnosis, treatment and issues throughout his treatment.
She did a full exam and checked his bloods which all seems good.
She has ordered a heart scan in the next month or two to see if there was any damage done by the chemo to his heart. He did have some heart pain for a several weeks after chemo so she wants to check if all is well and will compare to his original heart scan prior to chemo.

Only addition is that due to the amount of cancer that was in his bones including his collar bone and sternum, she wants him to start taking Vitamin D from now on as chemo would have damaged his bones and there is less absorption of Vitamin D from the sun down here. She will also review his scans post chemo.
Otherwise, moving forward, he is feeling well, still bouts of tiredness but one step at a time and doing well.
