Welcome to the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand, also known as CSSANZ. Our members are highly specialised in colorectal surgery.

Our Society, which has over 400 members, represents specialist colorectal surgeons in these two countries.

Celebrating a successful 2026 Fellows Training Weekend, convened by Training Board Member Dr Rebecca Shine.

The weekend also marked the changeover of the Board. We thank Andrew Luck for his contribution and service on the Board, and Jodie Ellis-Clark for her leadership as outgoing Chair. Congratulations to David Clark, taking on the role of Chair. Welcome also to new Board Member Mathew Kozman.

20 years of the CSSANZ Foundation Research Grants — and two more outstanding projects funded for 2026:

🔬 $35,000 → TRACE-PM Glen Guerra, Jeanne Tie, Alexander Heriot & Amanda Liesegang (Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre / University of Melbourne) Assessing residual disease via ctDNA in colore**al peritoneal metastases.

🔬 $30,000 → PreNAT Tim Eglinton (University of Otago, Christchurch) A multimodal AI model predicting complete response to neoadjuvant therapy in re**al cancer.

61 grants. $1.99M invested. 20 years. Funded by the profession, for the profession.

Queenstown is the backdrop this week as ANZTBCRS Fellows and Board Members come together for the 24th Fellows' Training Weekend. Three days dedicated to education, collaboration, and advancing colore**al surgical training across Australia and New Zealand. Thanks to Johnson & Johnson MedTech for their continued support.
